Rules to Learn the Martial Arts

Newsletter 938

Martial Arts Rules to Live By

We are born and we don’t know the rules.
the result is that for the history of man
we have been making up rules

Over 4,000 years ago
Hammurabi set down his rules.
280 rules on 12 stone tablets.
These rules dealt with everything,
from contracts to murder.

Then there was Moses,
10 rules on two tablets.

And throughout history everybody has made up rules,
rules to trade,
rules for criminals and punishment,
rules for marriage.

In your martial art there are doubtless rules.
Funakoshi wrote that there were six rules.
then only gave us five.
My theory is that the missing third rule had to do with matrixing.
But maybe that’s just me.
Grin.

In the school I am currently teaching
we have rules.
The head sensei came across these rules somewhere,
and printed them up and posted them
on the front door of the school.
Just to let you know,
before I reveal the rules,
his school specializes in kids.
He has no problem with specialized needs.
We even have a girl who is blind.
Every kid in there gets to help her,
and they all love it.
And she is actually learning some good martial arts.
Anyway,
here are the rules he posted.

In this studio…
We do second chances
We apologize
We forgive
We respect each other
We keep our promises
We never give up
We encourage one another
We laugh often
We belong…

I find it interesting to compare these rules
with the rules of other schools,
with rules posted by Funakoshi,
Hammurabi,
or whoever.

Obviously,
these rules were crafted by somebody
who wanted to reassure parents,
maybe was a social justice warrior,
maybe not,
and that’s okay.

My rules are pretty simple,
I write about them occasionally,
especially in my books on Neutronics.
They include such things as…

‘Be polite.’

and…

‘For something to be true,
the opposite must also be true.’

There are lots of rules in the world,
but they usually come back to such things as these.
I believe in simplicity.
Life is simple,
there is right…or wrong.
A simple choice,
that doesn’t need a lot of explanation.

The thing is this…
if you want to know the rules,
work out harder.
The rules of life are self-evident.
Simple truths.
Only crooks make them difficult.

Anyway,
I recommend ‘Chiang Nan’ this week.

http://monstermartialarts.com/how-to-translate-karate-into-tai-chi-chuan/

This book holds my thoughts on the original karate form,
how to translate karate to Tai Chi,
and the techniques deliberately hidden by the old masters.

The reason is simple…
if the old masters really hid the real techniques,
they were likely breaking their own rules.
Either that,
or they hadn’t worked out hard enough
to understand the real rules of living
and of the martial arts.

Have a great work out!

WIN!

Here’s a couple of wins I received. What makes them interesting is that two different people came across my ‘Buddha Crane’ book, and they reached similar conclusions, and had a heck of a lot of fun doing it.
The Buddha Crane book is bundled into ‘how to create your own art,’ and also as a book on Amazon.

Hello sir.
It’s going well. Really well. Once I was able to connect Buddha crane with shuri ryu, the pieces began to fall into place all by themselves.
The Buddha crane is the foundation of the kihon waza, ippons waza and came into their own flow drills(taezus naru waza).
Making changes to the Kata isn’t as easy, but I have done the first few Kata. Even crazier, I found someone who has already blended shuri ryu with something. So, it came rather easy.
Upon showing him how I’ve made changes opened his eyes and he’s asking me to give him pointers on how to make his karate be more ‘alive’.
My shuri ryu master is dead and I never got the chance to get my black belt. So, I’ve gone thru these people I’ve run into and just from what I showed them they are willing to bring me to the black belt in shuri ryu.
I’m not sure if that’s even important now, being that I matrixed the whole art, but I do hope to bring this understanding of shuri ryu to the table. Thus, starting a new (sub) ryu to the family.
I couldn’t have done it without you. Osu ~ Timothy G

Master founder,
How are you doing. I hope all is well. Happy belated fourth. Been busy with creating the art to make it my own. Honestly, I’ve been  working on some things with the arts. Oh yeah, I found a way to matrix the shuri ryu style. Quite interesting to see an existing art turn into something really workable.
Thanks to you sir, I’ve gained an understanding of true art. What turned it to be a great help was Buddha Crane Karate. Some fine points in that book. ~ John L

Martial Arts Become the Problem

Newsletter 936

What’s the Difference Between a Martial Art?

Why did you sign up for the martial arts?
What reason was ticking away in the back of your skull?
If you’re like me it was probably to get tough,
to be strong enough to fight back against the bullies.
And that is the secret of selling the martial arts.

To sell something you have to find a problem,
and offer what you’re selling as the solution.

The problem the martial arts addresses
is the student’s poor opinion of himself,
his desire not to be victim to all the people who bully him.
And this problem/solution has been selling the martial arts
since time was invented.

I remember a book in the fifties/sixties,
‘Super Karate Made Easy.’
And you don’t have to look for it,
it’s here…
http://monstermartialarts.com/free-martial-arts-books/

In this book situations were presented
in which the reader was addressed as being helpless,
but has fortunately studied a mysterious art.
Here’s a sample…

Your opponent tip-toes behind you and grabs your hair. To stop the hair pulling throw both your hands above your head and grab his hand. Follow thru with repeated smashes of the foot to opponent’s shin or down hard on his instep. That will be the last time this ingrate will get into your hair!

Do you see it?
You were a victim,
now you are offering the punishment.
This book sold…MILLIONS.
Wasn’t a very good book,
but it had the formula down,
present the reader as victim,
offer the solution.

When I signed up for Kenpo
I was fodder for the sales guy,
because I had just come through high school,
which means I had been bullied for four years.

In fact,
my parents told me to
shape up,
listen up,
shut up,
toe the line,
don’t fight back,
do what you’re told
and so on.

Then my teachers said to
shape up,
listen up,
shut up,
toe the line,
don’t fight back,
do what you’re told
and so on.

Even the other kids told me
shape up,
listen up,
shut up,
toe the line,
don’t fight back,
do what you’re told
and so on.

I wasn’t being raised…or educated,
I was being prepared for a life of
shape up,
listen up,
shut up,
toe the line,
don’t fight back,
do what you’re told
and so on.

So when I walked into that karate school,
and they offered me a solution,
man…I JUMPED AT IT!

Want to know a bad secret?
If you want to make money in the martial arts,
start up a website,
put a few techniques down on paper,
and surround them with descriptions of mayhem,
and sell them as a book.
And advertise the book by telling people they are weak,
and your ‘system’ are the solution.
Guaranteed.
You are going to get rich.

You don’t think so?
Go back through the internet scams
of the last few decades.

The guy
(who is described in a way that reminds you of you)
walks into a dangerous situation
(a bar, a party, a convention of skinheads)
accidentally offends
(bumps, is shoved into, makes a joke)
a bully
(a biker, a skinhead, a big drunk)
and uses a secret technique
(fight ender, prison elbows)
taught to him by a mysterious person
(monk, nun, spetznatz operative, green beret)
and he will share this system with you
for a price ending in 7.
(37.00, 47,00, etc.)

So why am I telling you this?
Because the other day I came across a website,
it was selling the same old same old,
a new and efficient system,
tossed out the slop,
focused on brutalizing the opponent.

I want you to think about that.
Brutalizing the opponent.
Isn’t that why you started the martial arts?
To stop being brutalized?
And now people are being sold on brutalizing.
They have become the problem.

The truth is that the martial arts have shifted.
They have gone from ‘defend yourself,’
to ‘beat the crap out of somebody.’
We have stopped seeking the solution,
and started seeking the problem.
Weird.

Now,
here’s the truth.
When I walk into a martial arts school,
I meet people who are not competent.
They don’t know how to teach the martial arts,
so they push fighting.
Not the martial arts,
but fighting.

Instead of drilling until one is aware of how a technique works,
the student is taught to fight…fight…fight!

Instead of learning how to control his body,
and thus the body of an opponent,
the student is taught how to brutalize.
Sure,
it’s all in the name of justice and humanity,
but it’s not in the spirit of justice and humanity.

What’s the solution?
Present the truth,
as best you can,
and hope you can penetrate to the human being
before he catches on fire.

The martial arts are not about fighting,
they are about not fighting.
About stopping the bully without beating the crap out of him.

It’s not about hitting the bag so hard you bust it,
it is about investing yourself with awareness.

Here’s the truth:
it’s not about beating some bully up,
it is about beating yourself up,
working out until you are so strong and competent
that the bully doesn’t come near you.
That is the way you create a peaceful world.
Not by pounding it into shape,
but by pounding yourself into awareness.

Here’s a win to encourage you.

Hello sir, I hope this email finds you in good spirits. I just wanted to give you an update on my progress with the Butterfly Pa Kua Chang training. I have kept up the 3 hours a day training, adding in some training elements such a lion holding the ball and the serving tea cups exercises. On the weekends I’ve been training at the parks here in Philadelphia, while my kids run around playing.

As previously mentioned I have a lot of martial experience, but Pa Kua Chang is unlike anything I had ever done in the past. It took me a good couple of months to get used to, but I have a real firm grasp of all of the basics and have even worked on my own double changes, three in total. I am absolutely addicted to it!!!

I can’t thank you enough for putting the course out there for people like me, who have no access to learning it in person here. I’ve even had several people stop me at the parks and ask to follow along with the movements as I walk the circle!

Thank you sir,
Fred

Have a great work out!

The Key to Becoming an Original in the Martial Arts

Outside the Martial Arts Box!

I used to ask my instructor
what he did to get better.
What did he work on?
What were his training methods?
He answered me:
‘I just do the forms.’
But he could stick his index finger
through a board and leave a hole.
Obviously,
there had to be something more.
It took me a while,
but I figured out the ‘extra ingredient.’
Going outside the box.

For instance,
I’ve written about his kicking bag.
We couldn’t go to a store and buy a bag back then,
we had to make our own.
I bought a duffle bag,
packed it with sawdust,
used it for a while.
It was a true piece of…stuff.
But it worked,
and I practiced,
and my kicks got better.
He did the same thing,
sort of.
He was able to find the canvas ‘sleeves.
He filled it with sawdust,
and the thing was too light,
didn’t pack right,
fell out of shape after a few hundred kicks.
So he experimented,
going ‘outside the box,’
and packed it with sawdust and water.
It got moldy.
He tried adding bleach.
Got soggy,
and he tried other methods.
His stroke of
outside the box
genius?
He cut newspapers in circles,
and stacked the circles in the bag.
Rock hard,
never fell out of shape,
light enough to hang without bending the rafters,
and so on.
This is true ‘out of the box’ thinking.
He did something totally unique,
nobody had EVER done anything like this,
and likely haven’t since then.
But his kicks were truly…
outside the box.

So,
let me describe the trap you are currently in,
which stops you from thinking outside the box.
I came across a fellow on the net,
and he was talking about if bags get too hard
you can’t kick them.
And he’s going into the physics,
and how it is physically impossible
according to the rules of the universe,
and so on.
If my instructor had ever paid attention to the physics…
he never would have made that bag.
He would have been trapped by,
not the physics,
but the belief system surrounding physics.

I was once told that a bumble bee can’t fly.
His weight is too much,
his wings too stubby,
according to physics,
the bumble bee can’t fly.
Thank god the bumble bee doesn’t know physics.
Thank god the bumblebee has his own belief system.

And we get all these athletes
training by physics,
eating the food,
using the training devices,
following regimens described by people
who know physics.

Before the four minute mile was cracked,
it was considered impossible.
No human could ever do that.
Now,
on the top tier of runners,
you’re sort of a wannabe
if you can’t break the four minute mile.
But the physics didn’t change.
What changed was people’s belief in physics.
Or,
they didn’t accept the physics,
and they went ahead and broke the rules.
Went outside the box.
Did something that nobody believed they could do,
just because,
in their supreme moment of ignorance,
they believed in themselves,
and ignored the idiots.
They went outside the box.

When my instructor kicked that bag,
it was too hard,
he should have broken his foot.
But,
he figured out how to kick the bag a little,
and his foot got stronger,
but more important,
his belief that he COULD kick that bag got stronger.
And,
as he kept kicking that bag,
his kicks slowly improved,
and his belief system,
his idea of what it was possible for him to do,
changed.

So that is how you go outside the box.
You get an idea,
you chip away at it,
you look at it,
and you expand your belief system
beyond the belief system
of those that are trapped by belief systems.

Now,
you don’t have a unique idea?
Yes,
you do.
When the instructor has you do ten kicks in class,
do eleven.
Go home and do a hundred.
I noticed that the fellows in my school
who had the best kicks,
were practicing 200 kicks per kick per side.
So I went home and started practicing
250 kicks per kick per side.
And,
man,
am I glad I did.
I’m 70 now,
and when I practice with these young kids,
my front kick is still faster,
and they really don’t like blocking it,
it hurts them to block it.

And,
what about forms?
Do you do your forms twice or thrice
and then call it?
How about doing your forms ten times?
Or,
have you ever done a form100 times in a row?
It changes you.
It changes the way you think about forms.
It changes your belief in forms.
Something I used to do,
I was practicing Tai Chi,
and I decided to pile stance it.
There are about 108 moves
in the classical form,
I took a full minute to do each move.
Took me two hours to do one form.
But,
Lord,
I was different after that.
My Tai Chi was different,
and I started to really understand
what the old Tai Chi masters were talking about.

Anyway,
I hope this gives you an idea on how to think outside the box.
The only advantage you’ve got is your imagination,
imagination IS thinking outside the box,
so put in a little extra sweat,
and put yourself outside the box.

And,
obligatory ad,
The book,
Chiang Nan,
is definitely outside the box.
I combined Karate and Tai Chi,
and got some interesting results,
results not covered by the fellows spouting their physics.

New Course on How to Matrix Martial Arts Weapons

Newsletter 930

Matrixing the Samurai Sword and Staff

One of the things that people have asked for
ever since the first matrixing course hit,
is for me to matrix the sword.
Specifically, the Samurai sword.
So I done it.

You can find a Matrix Kenjutsu box on the monster,
or there is a link down below.

The course is based on the book
‘3rd Level 6th Sense Sword Fighting.’

I actually wrote that book back in the 90s,
and I always received the best comments on it,
so it was time.

Now,
the course consists of 2 parts.

First is the Matrix Kenjutsu part.
I simply filmed each of the cuts, blocks,
how to do directions, and all that sort of stuff.
And I felt it was too simple.
I needed to predict any questions people might have.
The segments were too short.
The whole thing is only an hour long.

I always want to give people more than their moneys worth.
So I filmed a second part.
Teaching Matrix Kenjutsu.
In Teaching Matrix Kenjutsu
I filmed about 20 segments,
long segments,
in which I teach Matrix Kenjutsu to a student.
This ended up being over three hours of instruction,
showing not just the art,
but how to teach it.
You’ll see the mistakes made,
the questions asked,
the ‘what ifs’ that arise,
and so on.

Now,
if you do this course,
and have done the Master Instructor Course,
and send me a video of yourself doing the art,
just showing the strikes, the footwork, the two man defenses,
I’ll be happy to certify people.

And,
I’ll tell you right now,
you can teach this as a seminar to get people in your school,
or as a complete course along with whatever other art you teach.

I am about helping people become competent,
understand the truth of the martial arts,
and this really entails making teachers.

So,
the door is open,
whether you just want a new art,
an expanded viewpoint of matrixing,
or something to teach,
Matrix Kenjutsu is the real deal.

I’ll be talking about it over the next couple of weeks,
but for now,
head over to the monster page

http://monstermartialarts.com/matrixing-kenjutsu/

and check it out for yourself.

And,
just put it up,
so if anybody encounters any problems,
in ordering or the downloads themselves,
let me know at
aganzul@gmail.com.

And,
for now it is just Instant Download.
Sorry,
my printer is refusing to print disks,
so until I get that fixed,
instant downloads only.

Why You Are Stupid

The Reasons for Your Stupidity!

I could go into your parents wanting to be your friend instead of taking responsibility.

Or I could talk about how school is designed by government to make you a stupid but more compliant citizen.

I could go into drugs or electronics or any number of things.

But the fact is that 98% of the people on this planet are stupid.

To be precise: they are dreaming that they are awake.

Instead, I would like to tell you the solution, or how to wake up, how to make the dream give way to reality.

First, get rid of the GMOs, cigarettes, Parma prescriptions, food additives, vaping, obsession with playing a stupid video game, and so on.

Live now.

Second, begin a program for putting your body into good shape. Being overweight, while touted as ‘sexy’ by ad executives who know better, is unhealthy and puts you at risk.

Start riding a bike, join a dance class, learn yoga, or, my favorite, start doing the martial arts.

Third, throw the F-bomb TV out the stinking window!

You are not watching programming, you are being programmed.

Fourth, start reading, look for things that will undo that terrible (but oh so veddy expensive) education the government gave you.

Fifth, matrix.

What the heck is matrixing?

Matrixing is logic, pure and simple.

It is taking all the factors, comparing them, and boiling them down to the essential concept.

I use matrixing, I developed matrixing, in the martial arts.

Consider your garage, a hopeless mess. You couldn’t find a lawnmower in there if somebody ran it over your toes. That garage is like your mind. And your mind, because of drugs, education, and all the stuff I’ve just told you, is an F-bomb mess.

Consider a bookshelf, the one in your room. Everything is thrown on it. Shirts, ties, plants, even a book or two. Although the books are upside down and shoved into a corner. Heck, there’s even a cat turd on the top shelf!

Consider your mind, everybody tells you what to think, education fills you with weird concepts, and TV lies to you as a matter of perverted honor.

And you buy it all!

So, do what I said earlier. Get rid of drugs, electronics, your bad education, and everything else that has contributed to the mess of your mind.

But the question, really, is how do you get rid of it.

My solution was to do martial arts. They put my body in shape, put me in control, and started the procedure of cleaning out my brain, my mind, my spirit, whatever you want to call that clusterF-bomb you call a mind.

Now, there is still a problem.

You can do karate, or any martial art, and get in good shape, and even be thinking at a halfway decent rate, but there is still a mess.

You see, the martial arts are a put together, a combination of techniques, a build up of what everybody thinks is right and works.

Do you honestly think the martial arts are immune to the BS I listed above?

They have been put together by raving lunatics! People with vested interest! Religious wackos! Anybody who can beat somebody else up thinks they are smart.

Right.

They never heard that ‘Might doesn’t make right!’

So you figure out this matrixing thing.

You put the martial arts techniques in order.

As you put the martial arts in order you start to put your mind in order.

You start being able to think, to make correct decisions not based on all that crap that everybody and their uncle has pushed down into your mind.

Your mind becomes quick and fast, lean and mean, and you are able to think, and…to observe reality.

You awake.

You look around and ask yourself (I kid you not) why is everybody so stupid?

But now you know.

And now you can go find matrixing, and do it, or you can stay asleep.

You can stay just as stupid as you like.

Martial Arts Secrets…and People

The Martial Art Secret that will Bug You!

I read this other day,
realized it was profound,
that it would bug the stuff out of people
if they knew it.
So,
wanting to bug everybody,
I decided to tell you.
Just remember one thing,
remember,
when you’re thinking this over,
in the next few decades,
when you remember it and scrunch up your nose
and lower your brow anew…
it came from …

MONSTERMARTIALARTS.COM

Got it?
Deal?
Okay,
here it is.
A profound stupid item that will,
once you’ve had time to think about it,
get under your skin.

There are three types of people.
winners…losers…dreamers

Winners make their dreams work
Losers have given up on their dreams
And,
the vast bulk of people…

dreamers walk around dreaming of everything they don’t have…
and never do anything about it.

That’s it.

Now,
some of you are going to read this
and profound changes will occur.
You will start doing things differently.
But you were already winners.

Losers probably will never read this,
they’ve already given up,
even if they read it
it would have no impact.

Then there’s…you.

Make a list of the things you dreamed about.
What you wanted to be in life,
what you wanted to accomplish.
Did you do it?
Did you?
Can you change right now?
Interesting question.

There was a congressman
~ this is a true story ~
he spent 30 years in office,
and on the day he left
he was going through his desk
and he found a sheet of paper,
stuck in the back of the drawer,
crumpled up under the weight
of thousands of things shoved in after it.
He unfolded the paper
and saw it was a list of things
he planned to accomplish when in office.
He had written it his first day in office,
stuck it in the drawer,
and here it was,
30 years later,
and he had not accomplished
a single thing on the list.

30 years of votes and elections,
30 years of meeting with leaders,
30 years of being in charge,
and he was a dreamer.
And that’s all.

Now,
I’m a martial artist,
I dreamed,
and I became my dreams.
I did this
in spite of the people who said ‘no.’
And,
believe me,
there were plenty of people who offered discouragement.

You’re a martial artist,
or you wouldn’t be reading this.
So here’s the question:

Are you a winner, a loser, or a dreamer?

Are you going to study for a few years,
then quit,
get married and do what you’re told,
let kids take you out of the game,
let a career get in the way?

If you do that then,
in 30 or 40 years
you are going to open that closet,
see the fresh pressed uniform hanging there,
but there won’t be any multi-tipped black belt
looped over the hanger.
You’ll be face to face
with dreams that never happened.
You settled for a life of dreaming,
and even though you fell into a 9 to 5,
worked hard and were faithful,
you’re just a dreamer.

I’ll tell you,
you see that empty uniform
gathering dust and moths
and you’re going to remember this
and it is going to bug the stuff out of you.
All you could have been,
all you could have done,
in an empty uniform.

Or you could do something about it,
get started right now,
and do something.
Write a path,
and force yourself to stick to it
until the dream becomes reality.

Beat Feet, Retreat, and Win with Martial Arts!

Newsletter 918

The Danger of Reverse Martial Arts!

Actually,
there are three dangers here,
and one exception,
but first let’s answer the question…
What the heck is ‘Reverse Martial Arts?’
The answer is simple.
Backing up.
Running.
Retreating…and usually in disarray and with little hope!

The simplicity,
as you’ve no doubt heard,
is that there are three levels to a man.
Spirit
Mind
Body

If the body backs up,
if you are running,
can’t cope with the attack,
then the opponent can see it,
exploit it,
and chase you down.
By not holding your ground you become weak.

But,
the body backs up because the mind has failed.
The mind is a bunch of memory,
and the memories we are speaking of
are those techniques
you’ve tried so hard to make
intuitive.
But if the attack comes too fast,
is something you don’t understand,
you flinch…
which is to say back up.
So the mind has to back up first,
then the body.

BUT
the mind backs up because the spirit has failed.
The spirit is you.
You set yourself a task,
you decide to ‘go forward,’
but something confuses you,
makes you blink,
and you let go your task,
and the mind shuts down,
and the body backs up.

You are in retreat,
and in retreat is the danger of losing.

BUT,
there is an exception.
If your retreat is a plan,
if you realize something about the other person,
that you can deflate his presence,
depower his weapons,
confuse his strategy,
by a momentary retreat,
by ‘suckering him in,’
then you are not running.
You are setting the other fellow up,
or ‘attacking in retreat.’

Now,
that all said,
there is a cure,
a way to make sure that you never fail on any level,
and not on all three levels.
This is to keep the eyes open,
to study your mistakes,
to go forward with thought,
with consideration,
with analysis.
But that’s hard to do.
Still,

How to Create Your Own Martial Art

Newsletter 912

Can You Create Your Own Martial Art?

I’ve been getting a LOT of questions lately,
how do you matrix krav maga,
how do you matrix the martial arts,
how do you create your own art.

Usually I answer as best I can,
realizing that these people are not normal.
Actually,
hope I’m not offending anybody,
but they sound like bot driven questions.

As to how to matrix the arts,
read some of my books,
get some of my tapes.
Easily explained and shown.

But,
the one that got me was
‘how do you create your own art.’
What got me about this question
was that other people tried to answer it.
The question seemed to be addressed to me,
it was quorum,
so not sure,
but several people tried to answer,
and they totaled MESSED it.

Answers included:
you can’t.
you have to have something unique.
you can but it has to be proven in MMA.

Well,
the short story is this:
if you just copy somebody else’s art
you aren’t an artist,
you’re a copy cat.
So,
somewhere along the line,
you HAVE to create.
Else you aren’t really an artist.

Look,
ask this same question of a painter
and you will end up with something like this:
you can’t paint until you learn to make canvas.

Actually,
that was the attitude in the middle ages,
and famous artists would gain apprentices
who would make their canvases for them,
and never learn anything.
They were just being used.

I hope you appreciate that analogy,
because it is REALLY spot on.

So,
here is the FULL story:

first, study an art to expert (black belt)
second, study other arts on your own
third, find what works for you
fourth, categorize according to concept, principle, or whatever.

And that is the truth about creating your own art.

I encourage people to study as many arts as they can.
I help them through my courses.
I encourage them to take a class to black belt.
I give an education that helps people understand
the concepts and principles involved.
I make the best martial artists in the world.
NO copycats.

So,
you want to be an artist?
A REAL artist,
considering that an artist is somebody who actually creates art?
There is actually only one place on earth that does that.
There is only one place that gives access to a variety of arts,
and is dedicated to the student learning,
as opposed to mindless drilling,
as opposed to the art as a calisthenic,
as opposed to a single art being considered the ONLY art.

Here go…

Have a great MLK day,
he was a man who believed in peace,
and making peace work
without using force,
is the highest martial art.

Have a great work out!

A Martial Artists Night Before Xmas!

Newsletter 908

A Martial Arts Christmas Eve!

ALL RIGHT!
It’s Christmas eve,
and you know what that means…
it is TIME…
for the yearly rendering of
A Martial Arts Night Before Xmas.
Or,
as I like to call it…
HANAKWANMASS!

Before we start,
however,
I have to ask for my Xmas present.

If I have offended,
lost an order,
insulted you,
no matter how small or slight,
please forgive.
I make mistakes,
lots of them,
and I would love it if you could forgive me.
I’ll try not to make any more,
but you know how that goes.

NOW,
IT’S TIME!
In this corner,
holding a whiskey and looking dazed,
is your poet Al Case.
And in this corner,
proud as good literature can be,
is…

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

Twas the night before Christmas
I was in my shack
primed and ready
for the red fat attack.

my weapons were loaded
the windows were barred
all would be safe
while I was on guard

The chimney was decked
with concertina wire
I crouched by the couch
ready to fire.

I had an M60
with ammo to feed
I didn’t care
if the red fat did bleed.

A loaded shotgun
and grenades to spare
when red fat came down
I’d blow him out of there.

Throwing stars and knives
and a really long sword
and if that didn’t work
I knew a bad word.

Sitting there late
my eyes started to close
when suddenly I heard
a bunch of ho hos.

Off with the lights
safety off, too
I  watched the fire close
and heard a sound from the flu.

‘Ouch and gosh darn it
who put the wire here
those are my undies
starting to tear!’

Then a shower of soot
and a grunt and a groan
he landed in the fire
and gave out a moan.

He was rubbing the place
where the wire did tear
so I held down the trigger
and lead filled the air.

belt after belt
did I deal the red fat
he danced and he jumped
I knew he felt that!

then quicker than spit
I ran out of lead
but enough was enough
he had to be dead.

Boy was I shocked
to see him stand tall
stepping out of the fireplace
not bothered at all.

So I grabbed up the 16
to mow him down
he had to be hurting
cause I saw his big frown.

Then I was empty
and he came straight for me
I pulled out my knives
and sliced him with glee

He jumped to the side
moving real quick
disarmed my knives
with a well placed kick

then he dropped the big bag
he had on his shoulder
reached forth his arms
and his anger did smolder

He grabbed hard my neck
and held me up high
I tried kicks and punches
but I was like a fly

Not karate nor judo
no art did work
and he grinned a mean grin
and called me a jerk

‘Don’t you know
you stupid little man
Christmas is forever
in spite of your plan.’

Then he threw me aside
and proceeded to work
giving presents to all
and to me a great smirk

And when he left
the great big red fat
he left me a lump of coal
the big red fat rat!

HANAKWANMASS TO ALL
and to all a great work out.

Have a great work out!

How a Poser Technique Destroys Martial Arts.

Newsletter 907

The Martial Arts Concept That Will Get You Killed!

Behold the Poser!

I figured out the Poser like this:

I was an instructor in Kenpo.
Thought I was the deadliest SOB walking.
Then I met a kid who showed me some stuff.
Curious, I let him introduce me to his brother.
His brother happened to be a Hell’s Angel.
His brother also happened to know something of Kenpo.

“What would you do for this attack?”
He grabbed my tee shirt with two fists.
I was shocked,
incapable,
in spite of my training I didn’t know what to do.
“Why don’t you try ‘Flapping Wing?’
My eyes were round,
that was one of my techniques.
I taught it regularly.
Surely I could make that work!
So I locked his hands in place,
brought a forearm up to break his elbows.
He lowered his elbows,
which hurt my forearm.
Doggedly,
I brought my forearm around in a circle.
I smashed down on his radial nerves,
which should have paralyzed his arms,
and started to chop him in the throat.

He threw me through a wall.
Yep.
All the way through it.

Then he told me to grab his shirt.
I did so.
And he punched me…through the wall.

Twice,
in thirty seconds,
I went through a wall.

The night then became one of the most fascinating
question and answer period,
and I started to learn about the true art.
And I started to learn about posers.

The actual definition for a Poser technique is:
‘when the attacker has to not do something
so the defender can make the technique work.’

My kenpo consisted of wide circles and slapping hands,
his technique consisted of straight punches and brute force.

Now,
this isn’t to downgrade Kenpo.
There are many arts which make the circling of the arms work,
and well.
And Kenpo,
with a little bit of analysis,
can also be made to work.

Kenpo is not bad,
but there is a wide variance of ability
in the people who teach the art.

On the beginning levels of the martial arts
one learns how to streamline the straight line,
how to make it work.
Matrix Karate.

On later levels one learns circles and how to make them work.
Blinding Steel (Monkey Boxing),
for instance,
creates speed.

But,
I recommend that one learn the beginning levels
so that one learns how to generate power properly.
That power can then be used on later levels,
later levels which do not have those types of power building drills.

So,
a Poser can be a person who is a fake personality,
acts like he is something when he isn’t.
But,
in the martial arts a Poser refers to a technique
that takes too long,
doesn’t fit in with concepts of power,
looks fancy,
is often out of place
(could work if learned later on when certain principles of power have been learned)
And so on.

And,
the news…
Matrix Karate is the ONLY course that gives you techniques in the right order,
and that knowledge will help you discover the Posers in your own art,
and fix your own art.

http://monstermartialarts.com/martial-arts/matrix-karate/

Your art isn’t bad.
Heck,
it might be pretty good,
but once you know how to fix it it will become better than great.
My guarantee.

Onkey Donkey,
Not too late to give the gift that keeps on giving
(one of my matrix courses)

And,
HanaKwanMass to all,
and get ready for the Martial Artist’s
‘Night Before Xmas.’
I read it (via newsletter) every Xmas.
People groan and throw up their hands,
but I think it is art.
So there.

Have a great work out!
