How the Martial Arts Went Out of Control!

How the Martial Arts Went Out of Control!

A glorious work out to you!
One more step towards paradise,
that’s what a work out is.
Make sure you take a couple of steps today.

Perhaps you’ve heard me say:

there is an art to destruction,
but the true art is in control.

When I was first learning
way back in the middle ages,
we took a lot of pride
to be perfect in our techniques.

We never threw a kick,
and missed and spun around,
like they do in MMA.
We threw a kick, and if it missed,
we retracted the foot right back to the ground.

And we never threw boxing punches,
like hooks and crosses and things.
Those thing broke the line of the body.
Yes,
they were stronger,
but if you had kicks you never worried about a boxer.
It was more important to hone your whole body,
to have good kicks, punches, blocks, and so on,
than it was to put everything into a wild haymaker,
or some other out of control movement.

I remember the first time i saw somebody
who was out of control in the martial arts.
I was at a tournament,
I think it was up at Richmond,
and this white belt,
when the match was begun,
would charge across the ring,
and start pummeling the other guy.
No art,
no focus,
no technique,
no experience,
no martial arts.
The shocking thing was that he got away with it.
No referee pulled him and his sensei aside,
and told him he would have to know karate
if he wanted to be in a karate tournament.

Not too long after that,
kickboxing started up.
Which was just boxing with a few kicks.
Mandatory kicks,
because it was easier
(required less art,
less attention to detail)
and more effective.

Well, of course it was more effective,
it was the ring,
and you couldn’t kick somebody in the balls.

And,
over the years,
there has been this continuous push
away from the fine tuned attention to detail,
the retraction of the kick and
the focus of the punch,
and now people just bang away
and call it karate,
or martial arts,
or whatever,
and it is.
Not by a long shot.
Doesn’t look like the stuff I learned
near fifty years ago.

The focus,
you see,
went from art,
to beating people up.

And instructors found it easy and mindless
to let people,
to encourage people,
to just throw hooks and jabs,
instead of learning how to generate energy,
and focus it precisely.

Ah, well.

Anyway,
I recommend my courses
if you want to resurrect the art.
I don’t box,
I don’t bang,
I get into the art,
the control,
the discipline that forges the spirit.

Here’s a link…

http://monstermartialarts.com/martial-arts/matrix-karate/

This link will get you going on the true art,
show you how to make karate,
real karate,
technique work.
Then the door to the real you will open.

Have yourself a great work out!

Merry Xmas Monster Martial Arts Stye!

A Martial Arts Xmas to You!

Good morning!
It’s almost Xmas!
Almost time to sneak down
and open the presents the night before!
Find that set of throwing stars,
or shiny, new sword,
or other implement for keeping world peace.
Heh.
And,
speaking of the night before,
it is time for my yearly rendering of
The Night Before Xmas!
Monster Martial Arts Style,
of course.

HanaKwanMass to Freedom Fighters the World Over!

But,
before I offend everybody,
let me remind you,
I have two specials going on.

One,
Rolling Fists is half price,
because I have a bunch of labels
that faded.
Email me for details.

Two,
the HanaKwanMass two for one special!
That’s right,
get any course,
and email me afterward
for any other course
of equal or lesser value!

AND…
speaking of HanaKwanMass,
it stands for Hanukah/Kwanza/Xmas,
it is my attempt to offend
EVERY politically correct person I can.
Simply,
if somebody who is purple,
believes different than you,
is from faroutistan,
wishes you a happy whatever holiday,
TAKE IT AND LOVE IT!
And wish them well back!

Okay,
enough bushwah,
let’s get down to the one poem
that I do year after year,
which offends anybody with sensibility
but is a hoot to a martial artist…

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

Twas the night before Christmas
I was in my shack
primed and ready
for the red fat attack.

my weapons were loaded
the windows were barred
all would be safe
while I was on guard

The chimney was decked
with concertina wire
I crouched by the couch
ready to fire.

I had an M60
with ammo to feed
I didn’t care
if the red fat did bleed.

A loaded shotgun
and grenades to spare
when red fat came down
I’d blow him out of there.

Throwing stars and knives
and a really long sword
and if that didn’t work
I knew a bad word.

Sitting there late
my eyes started to close
when suddenly I heard
a bunch of ho hos.

Off with the lights
safety off, too
I  watched the fire close
and heard a sound from the flu.

‘Ouch and gosh darn it
who put the wire here
those are my undies
starting to tear!’

Then a shower of soot
and a grunt and a groan
he landed in the fire
and gave out a moan.

He was rubbing the place
where the wire did tear
so I held down the trigger
and lead filled the air.

belt after belt
did I deal the red fat
he danced and he jumped
I knew he felt that!

then quicker than spit
I ran out of lead
but enough was enough
he had to be dead.

Boy was I shocked
to see him stand tall
stepping out of the fireplace
not bothered at all.

So I grabbed up the 16
to mow him down
he had to be hurting
cause I saw his big frown.

Then I was empty
and he came straight for me
I pulled out my knives
and sliced him with glee

He jumped to the side
moving real quick
disarmed my knives
with a well placed kick

then he dropped the big bag
he had on his shoulder
reached forth his arms
and his anger did smolder

He grabbed hard my neck
and held me up high
I tried kicks and punches
but I was like a fly

Not karate nor judo
no art did work
and he grinned a mean grin
and called me a jerk

‘Don’t you know
you stupid little man
Christmas is forever
in spite of your plan.’

Then he threw me aside
and proceeded to work
giving presents to all
and to me a great smirk

And when he left
the great big red fat
he left me a lump of coal
the big red fat rat!

HANAKWANMASS TO ALL

and to all a great work out.

Three for One Matrix Kenpo Book Offer

Matrixing Kenpo Released as Downloads!

Okay, two newsletters in one day? What the heck is going on with Al?
Well, I’m trying to get everything done before next Wednesday.
And, speaking of which, here is a new website…

http://kenponow.wordpress.com

I know you all know of my problems with the copyright infringement thing on the Matrixing Kenpo books.

I’ve just about got it fixed, people are happy, and it’s time to start getting the revamped books out.

The purpose of this new website is to give you an offer, all three books, in instant download, for only $15.

Normally the books are $15 a piece! So this is a REAL deal.

Doing this enables me to make sure things work, to get feedback, and to start the publishing process anew.

BUT, this will only last a short while. I hope to have the books up on the market within a few days. And if I don’t take this offer down then, it will be down shortly after, because when I publish on Kindle they won’t allow me to sell books that they are carrying in this format.

So you might have as little as a week to take advantage of this offer.

So head for the website…

http://kenponow.wordpress.com

and check it out.

Let me know if there are any problems.

And if you want to wait for the physical books, it won’t be long, but this offer is here for right now…

have a great work out!

Controlling All Emotion through Martial Arts…

Martial Arts Starts the Journey of Your Life

Got a win to share.
Got to tell you,
I get wins and thanks yous all the time,
but every few weeks
I get a big win from somebody.
What’s a big win?
Read on…

Hey Al,

Back in 2009 I became one of your Master Instructors and I have purchased several of your courses and material. I have also worked through and trained in your Matrix Karate, Kang Duk Won, and I am now working through Shaolin and the 40 monkeys. I haven’t tested for black belt in these, yet. Not because I don’t believe in what you are teaching but because the material is so durn interesting. I find myself just wanting to jump in to the next course. With these courses, more importantly, is the effect that your Neutronic writings have had on me when used in correlation with your training courses.
Back in 2009 when I wrote my win for the MI course. I talked about how the energy flows, being an electrician, and takes its shortest path to ground and about the simplicity of it all. As I continued through the (Church of Martial Arts) Temples courses a lot of mental doors opened up. An example is your discourse on emotion and how you stated that it is motion inside the head. I spent a lot of time doing forms and contemplating this truth. Emotion, E-motion, E-energy. Energy in Motion. Wow. Of course, you explain this through your discourse about Intention, but you really have to do the work on the course to really understand this. There are many examples like this. I think that’s why I haven’t tested. Although a belt would give me a sense of accomplishment. The journey is understanding the Awareness and how to control myself to promote the most constructive beneficial outcome, not just for me but those I come in contact with. I have come to give praise to people because all are worthy teachers. You have changed my life bud, really. I will continue on through the Temples required courses as they benefit me greatly. Maybe someday I will test, but for now, I am happy with the knowledge. At the time I received my MI certification I thought I understood, but it is really just the beginning. Although I have no ranking you are my Instructor and I your student. I am greatly indebted to you for creating the Church of the Martial arts. You have repaired what has been torn apart and thrown to the wind. The Temple will be my base and foundation. I hope to some day visit and to help in the building of this Temple. I hope this finds you and yours well.

Your Student,

Michael Guthrie

Thank you Michael,
and,
as I told him in my response,
I am a bit humbled.
Such a win!

Now,
a couple of things.
The Temple courses he refers to
are at ChurchofMartialArts.com.
As is Neutronics.

AND,
his point is important,
you must be applying the martial arts discipline,
doing them every day,
then the information I give will bite,
will have importance,
will work.

Think about it,
if you don’t have martial arts discipline,
if you aren’t actively using such things as energy
in the prescribed manner,
then what you read might not work!

You need the reality
to understand the theory,
you need to calm your mind through action,
to discover the non-motion
underlying all motion.

It is all hand and glove,
but without doing it,
you won’t understand it.

Matrixing isn’t just a method for understanding martial arts,
it is the start of the journey into you.
Who you are.
What you are.
How the universe works.

Let’s talk about this emotion thing.

I am the first to discover this,
it isn’t written anywhere,
I figured it out with matrixing and neutronics…
emotion is motion inside the head.

You experience something in reality,
and that results in motion inside the head
(or, more properly, the mind).

Doesn’t mean it isn’t real,
it just is.

Now,
a psychotic can’t control that motion,
he is controlled by that motion.
Makes decisions based on that motion
and those decisions may be a severe warping of reality.
Heck,
he can’t even tell which is more real,
the motion inside his head,
or reality.

Joe Blow goes through life,
whim to his emotions.
He responds to television programming,
votes on the spur of emotion,
and so on.
Heck,
he even does things like choose a wife
based on emotion,
and not an understanding of partnership
and life contracts.

A martial artist,
however,
focuses on one thing,
the doing of technique,
the doing of form,
and by concentrating on doing just one thing,
he gains a focus for awareness,
and the motion inside his head
becomes recognizable as something separate from reality.
The motion inside his head slows down,
and he ends up perceiving reality as it is.

Mind you,
it is not a fast journey,
unless you are matrixing.
Then it can be really fast,
because it is logical.

But I’m not pushing Matrixing here,
I am just explaining how it works,
then you can make a decision about things like matrixing,
a decision not based on the motion inside your head.

Crying means an experience overwhelmed you,
something came towards you,
you couldn’t handle the motion that occurred inside your head,
so you express,
get relief,
from crying.

Pain is a very real motion inside your head,
often having external stimuli,
but not necessarily.

Love is not an emotion,
it is a configuration of two people
who find that they fit together
and want to partner through life.

hate: that’s a real motion inside the head,
one in which a person tries to stop the motion inside his head
by hurting somebody else.

It’s in your head,
but the other guy should die.
What a solution,
eh?

And so on.

But the thing is that all the emotions,
good or bad,
resolve,
become easily handled,
if you learn how to focus yourself as an awareness.

But,
here’s the point,
this definition for emotion
you will find nowhere else in the world.
It is written nowhere else.
It is a totally misunderstood point of mankind,
and the planet rocks and rolls towards destruction,
with nobody understanding what emotion is.

AND,
even if they do understand it,
intuitively somehow,
without the discipline to control it,
to make it small and manageable,
and a tool that benefits one,
instead of a hammer that crushes skulls,
the knowledge is worthless.

You have to do the discipline
to gain control of yourself as awareness.
You can’t just read the words.

Think about it,
mankind doesn’t know this,
it wars and famines and diseases itself to death.
You know it is this truth about emotion,
you just read it,
but are you doing anything about it?
Are you applying it to your discipline?
Gearing your workout away from violence and emotion and all that,
and towards control?
And,
are you matrixing?
Are you studying the logic that makes it all easy and fast?
Without matrixing
you might learn to control yourself
to the degree I am talking,
but it could take decades,
a whole lifetime!

I hope you understand now,
and I thank Michael for his win.

Being an electrician helped,
understanding how the universe works really helps,
but whether you have a base in science or not,
the work out is the thing.

So,
pop over to Church of Martial Arts,
see what I’m talking about,
make a fresh decision to get matrixed this summer,
and really start the ball rolling.

The truth is,
with all the well meaning people in the world,
the number of people who have a clue is small.
But you are one.
You understand,
just from this newsletter,
how important it is that you take control of your life,
and that the martial arts is more than just a way to beat people up,
it is a path to the self,
to enlightenment,
to being able to have a life that is rich and forgiving,
filled with friends and accomplishments.

So,
that’s about all for now,
talk to you later,
I’m a bit late this newsletter,
so I’ll try to get the next one out Tuesday,
no later than Wednesday,
and,
until then…

WORK OUT!

Al

A Quick Summation of Matrix Karate

How Matrix Karate affects ALL Martial Arts

Matrix Karate is a system of martial arts,
but it is a system of logic as well,
and you can apply this logic to ANY other martial art.
Simply do Matrix Karate,
then take the basics of your system,
and I don’t care if it is krav maga
or tai chi,
or even something concocted by Lieutenant X,
and plug it into the forms and techniques
and you will have an instant Matrix of your system.

Now,
that is not the end of it,
but the beginning.
because as soon as you see your system logically,
ALL sorts of other doors are going to open.

And then the classical system that you have been studying
is truly going to become a VERY advanced form of Karate.

You won’t have those mysterious ‘hidden techniques’
holding you back.

You won’t have the political bushwah
that destroyed your system
in the way any more.

You won’t have any less than adequate instruction
that you might have received,
in your way.

Simply,
you will understand how everything fits together,
and then when you take another look
at that classical system,
you will realize something:
if your system is unchanged enough
then you will truly benefit from the concept
of it being a closed combat system.

A closed combat system is one
which was designed by evolution of generations,
doing only what works,
until you have something truly rare,
a true masterpiece,
something that can evolve the human being.

And,
if it is changed,
then you will have the tools
to RETURN it to
a closed combat method
once again.

I don’t care if your system has been…
altered by politicians,
twisted by political organizations,
changed for tournaments,
diluted for kids,
designed to make money,
or whatever,
or ANYTHING else…
you will be able to fix it.

And,
I guarantee this,
even if you can’t see what has been left out,
you will be able to figure it out after matrixing.

Now,
Matrix Karate is that powerful.
But,
here’s something I run across.
I come across,
usually in forums,
the people who say…
I know what you did,
I know what you are doing…
I’ve already done that.

Here’s the cruel trap,
there are enlightened human beings out there,
and they well might have figured out
what the heck is happening,
and they might actually have insight into their own souls.
These guys might well be VERY powerful people.

BUT…
they did it without method.
Or,
the method they used is antiquated,
based on ancient hieroglyphics
or whatever,
and…

THEY CAN’T EXPLAIN IT!

Which means they can’t teach it.
They can’t explain what they are doing,
accept in the most obtuse and confused manner.
They will resort to sayings from the Tao,
which is a good book,
but not a science,
and can be very confusing in itself.

And these guys,
no matter how smart,
end up losing students
because they don’t have a good, scientific method.

And,
I ask them,
‘have you ever seen a matrix?’
And they say nothing.
Because they are holding on to the fact
that they know something.
They don’t undersdtand,
won’t understand,
that I am not trying to destroy their system,
I am only making it so they can understand it
and teach it,
and create a REAL golden age of Martial Arts.

Now,
I have made it REAL easy.
First,
there is the course itself,
available on MonsterMartialArts.com,
and a few other places.
Second,
there is an example of me teaching the course,
complete from white to black.
That is on Monstermartialarts.com
and a few other places.
Third,
if you want to understand Matrixing theory,
there is Matrixing: the Master Text.
That is available on MonsterMartialArts.com
and a few other places.
Fourth,
there is the Matrixing Karate series.
Five books detailing ALL sorts of stuff,
available on Amazon.

Now,
here is the funny thing,
you probably paid
$50 a month for your lessons,
maybe a lot more.
And the material here is less expensive than…
all the years of your lessons,
a movie and dinner with your mate,
a used tire,
a new Tokaido gi,
A TANKFUL OF GAS!
groceries for a week (if you eat a lot)
a few cases of beer (and better for you)
a pair of Nikes,
and all sorts of other stuff,
and you end up with
MORE KNOWLEDGE
than ALL your years of previous training.
Or,
at least,
the ability to make TOTAL sense
out of ALL your martial arts.

Okay,
thanks for letting me get that out.
I know it is a sales push,
but there is data in there,
and if we are going to have a REAL golden age of martial arts,
it really is necessary.

Okay,
it rained up here at Monkeyland,
so I have to replace an inverter,
clean out culverts,
chase the cows out of the crops,
and go look at the birds.
Saw the most AMAZING buzzard hawk today.
Truly magnificent.
Sitting on the highest branch
of the tallest tree
on the highest mountain here.
Heck,
maybe I better just move that to the top of the list,
Yes,
watch birds all day,
then go work on a ‘Buzzard Hawk’ form.
That’s what I have to do.
You guys and gals,
I really want you to have an enlightening work out,
really get into it,
really analyze the way you shift your weight,
keep your blaance,
and how that combines to create EXTRA energy.

Have a great work out!
Al

that you are.

Have a great work out!
Al

Where are you as a Martial Artist?

The Difference between low level and high level Martial Artists

Speaking of Martial Arts, my brother had possibly the lamest joke of all time. He would ask, ‘What’s the difference between a duck?’ And, the answer: ‘One leg is both the same.’

And, having contributed possibly the lamest entry in the history of martial arts writing, and maybe of writing of all time, let me explain the difference between a martial artist.

difference martial art

Where are you as a martial artist?

On the bottom you have sleeping dreams, which are usually just a confusion of memories.
Simply, people without martial arts go to sleep and they have weird dreams as the things they have experienced in life try to fit in with the jumble of their memories.

On the top you have the ethereal universe, or ethereal plane. This has been spoken of, and you can do some research, but you’re in for a real egghead time. So let me just clarify it as simply as I can.

It is a universe not based on memory; it is a universe of thought; it is a universe where human beings have their real existence…before manifesting the thoughts of that real existence on this shabby, little ball of dirt called earth.

It’s where you decide to win the fight with one punch…before the punch is thrown.

Since the idea of deciding to win or lose before the action even takes place is important in the martial arts, let’s explore this concept of dreams and ethereal existence from the viewpoint of emotion.

A person at the bottom has emotion. Anger, fear, rage, and so on. Simply, he is manifesting emotion hopelessly. He can’t deal with it, so he expresses it. He externalizes it in a vain attempt to give it away.

A person who has found the ethereal universe will have no emotion. Having no emotion, however, does not immune a person from such things as joy and love and so on. Joy and love and such things, you see, are an expression of spirit, of the actual soul.
People experiencing emotion think they are experiencing emotion when they encounter joy, for instance. But the actuality is that they have done without emotion and are now experiencing themselves. Brief, but true, and then emotion snags them down again, and they don’t understand the lie that has been perpetuated upon them by their misunderstanding of what actual emotion is…and what the attributes of the human soul are.

By doing the martial arts one learns how to do without emotions and experience life as a joyful experience.
And here is something a lot of people who think they are martial artists, but who aren’t, will not like: if you experience anger, or rage, or similar emotion during fighting, then you aren’t doing the martial arts.
You may be doing martial arts tricks, but you haven’t found the true art which will reveal the soul.

If you experience emotion, and would like to find the true martial art that trains you to control your emotions, and thus reveals the true martial art, then pop on over to MonsterMartialArts.com.
If you would like to explore such concepts as the Ethereal Plane, then head on over to ChurchofMartialArts.com. Be careful, though, because without the discipline of the martial arts you won’t really understand what is being said there. You just think you will.

A Martial Arts Matrixing Win Plus Annoncements

Three Important Martial Arts Announcements!

All right!
Three work outs tomorrow.
Not long,
but have to be done.
And really throw yourself into them
so that you aren’t doing them
to get them out of the way,
but are just focusing on what you want to get out of them.
Perfect balance.
Focus,
proper breathing,
whatever.

Now,
three things today,
and first things first,
hanakwanmass.
Every year people say season’s greetings.
They don’t want to say Merry Christmas,
or Happy Hanukah,
or something else
that is specific
and therefore politically incorrect.
Well,
my feeling is that if somebody doesn’t like a well wishing,
the heck with him.

So what if I say Merry Christmas to a Jew,
or Happy Hanukah to an Arab,
or whatever.
It’s the happy thought that counts,
but you have IDIOTS going around
saying happy tim, or season’s well wishes,
or whatever,
and they are afraid to offend somebody.

Heck,
my motto is…
offend everybody
and let God sort ‘em out.
Right?

So Hanakwanmass stands for
Happy Hanukah, Kwanza, and Merry Christmas.
I figure at best,
i get to offend two out of three,
right?

So,
Hanakwanmass to you,
and if you don’t like it,
let’s freestyle,
grrr!

that bit of pleasantness aside,
second thing…
let me share a win.
This is from Will,
who is on the Black Belt course,
I coulnd’t see his video on youtube and said yikes,
and he said…

hi sensei Al
I laugh my head off. when I read yikes, I thought wow, is my technique that bad??? lol oops, I thought like hmm, I am I that far off? I mentally pictured you throwing up  over the screen…screaming in agony, blinded by the experience… stumbling out of the starbucks…nearly hit by a bus, cursing my name…lol.
well, I did repeat down/upward block  after I thought I wasn’t breathing and leaned into the strike rather than transition. I could have reshot it, but I thought what the heck, least you see me correcting myself for whats worth it. I donated 2$ to monkeyland only to discover to my horror, you played santa claus and I found many gifts under the tree. wow, thank you, that was one heck of a pleasant surprise. videos over videos, book after book, I am a kid in the candy store. speaking of over delivering, you have what is called at Darden Business school operational excellence. I was able to matrix now everything I do in martial arts, even managed to start to matrix a complete escrima system out of the basics of blinding steel. you were right, it is a totally different understanding of matrixing, once you mastered/understand matrix karate. the matrix blocks gave me a lot better insight into wing chun as well. mainly from the mini matrix. that was one heck of a revelation. I hit 3 flies in one go. I understand karate, wing chun and escrima now a lot better and was able to extract that out of the material. thank you very much. I really enjoy the way to the goal now.
whatever happens, I am extremely grateful and indebted to you, sensei Al.

Thank you, Will.
I love wins better than anything.
It means that not only did I have a great work out,
but somebody else did,
and sharing wins means that even more people
are going to have a great work out!

You can find Blinding Steel on Monster Martial Arts under courses.

http://monstermartialarts.com/martial-arts/3a-blinding-steel-matrixing-weapons/

You can find The Road to Monkeyland
under ‘donations’ on Churchofmartialarts.

http://churchofmartialarts.com/donations/

Plus,
there is another little gem
on the donations page.
How to Fly on the Ethereal Plane.

And,
third things third,
I am going to release a novel in a day or two,
I’ll send you a newsletter
when it happens.

This is a very significant novel,
and while it is action and adventure
with some good martial arts,
it describes things
at the top of the martial arts,
way beyond black belt,
and it will give you a new reality
on what’s at the end of the tunnel,
or,
perhaps I should say,
at the top of the mountain.

Very advanced stuff,
but put in novel form.
It was a very interesting experience
to blend highest level martial arts,
an actual lesson
for those who have matrixed
and are going neutronic,
in novel form.

Now,
got to go.
It’s freezing up here at Monkeyland,
and we have to chase off the cows,
chip ice out of the pond,
and a thousand and one other things,
just so I have the time to do an actual work out.

But,
man,
what work outs they are.
Envy me.

And,
have a great work out!
Al

Why People Can’t Understand Matrixed Martial Arts

Why People Don’t Understand Matrixing

I have people asking me, every once in a while, for an example of Matrixing in the Martial Arts. This is something I don’t want to give, and there is an exact reason for me refusing. Let me explain this reason.

The mind is a bunch of memory. That’s all it is. An animal mind has very short span. A goldfish forgets within three seconds. That’s it. Simply, the goldfish is a being that lives within three seconds, and then moves on.

From this…

Man is a rather longer memoried beast. It would be nice to go into this more, but this is not the time and place. So let it suffice to say that you can remember virtually anything. This lifetime alone, you can recall the most minute memories.

Now, mental abilities are something else, and they have absolutely nothing to do with the mind. Mental abilities, such as the ability to create problems, intuition, telepathy and telekinesis and all that sort of thing, that are not born of memory…they are what the awareness of the individual can do.

Separate them: mind is memory, and mental ability has nothing to do with the mind. Mental ability is what you, the human being, can do in your wildest dreams.

martial matrix

…to this!

When you do the martial arts you memorize patterns. You memorize techniques. You memorize muscle motion.

You put all this into your mind.

But what can you do?

Well, you can do whatever is in your mind, but that has nothing to do with what you, the human being, can do in your wildest dreams.

You see, all this stuff you memorize into your mind is nothing more than…circuits. Just like an electrical circuit, bound by nodes and boards and such…everything is on a set path.

But you can only trap a human being so long. Eventually, be it a few seconds or a million years, the human being is going to say, ‘wait a minute! I recognize this place! I see what I’ve been doing! I see this memory!’

At that second the circuit is blown, the pattern disappears, and you become free.

Now freedom is relative, and that’s an absolute, and this is another one of those things I should skirt during the course of this essay.

So the point is this, when you blow a circuit you enter into mushin no shin. Mind of no mind. Or…a place where there are no memories telling you what to do.

Here’s a couple of things that go along with that phenomenon.

Mushin no shin can be achieved through the necessity of the moment…because of the need for survival. A fellow on the battlefield may experience it. Time slows down, he develops other perceptions rather instantly.

I remember reading of one fellow who survived Viet Nam because he could ‘smell’ Viet Namese. We could argue whether he actually detected by odor, or whether the human being sensed and attributed this ability to his nose, but the fact remains, he survived through an ability ‘grown’ for the moment.

Mushin no shin might last for a brief instant…then the memories come flooding back in. Still, that experience, that ‘aha’ moment, will open up a human being and let him or her know that there is a lot more to him, and life, than is ever written in a book, any book, in western society…or eastern.

Indeed, it is near impossible to describe this moment except in general and almost cartoonish terms.

The world glows. You understand God. You can see forever. These are descriptions of something that cannot be described.

And there are other phenomena connected with mushin no shin, or as I have segued into…enlightenment.

The difference between mushin no shin and enlightenment may be merely one of degree, or perhaps depth of understanding. Or perhaps the type and size of circuits blown.

But let’s return to the martial arts and why I don’t give examples of matrixing.

The martial arts are a series of memories. They are patterns. They are circuits implanted in the mind through hard work. And here is the bugaboo.

If the martial art is sufficiently illogical, there will be no mushin no shin, except by the severest accident. There will be no enlightenment.

One example of this is boxing. There are no examples that I can think of where a boxer suddenly threw off his gloves and said, ‘I understand that the essential nature of the universe is a golden vibe which we call God.’

There are a few boxers who have been pounded into believing in God, but this is not enlightenment, this is worship by the beaten.

Another example would be kenpo.

To be plain, I love Kenpo, I have loved it since I encountered in 1967, but I was not able to matrix it for a variety of reasons.

It doesn’t create a connection with the earth through serious stance work. It is a put together, a real conglomeration, of everything Ed Parker encountered and thought about: it is the memories, jumbled and reconstructed in a desperate effort to make sense, of one man. It is five evolutions of thought as one man went through life without ever encountering mushin no shin, or an ‘aha’ moment.

Nothing against kenpo, it just best exemplifies illogic in the martial arts.

And what it specifically exemplifies is the basic training method, which is memorization, or implantation of training sequences in the mind.

When I developed matrixing it seemed like an accident, but it was really my search for logic in a universe that is rather slipshod and haphazard and put together by whim and shamble.

Why me, why the martial arts, why the million and one experiences that set me free, I don’t know. Call me a cosmic accident.

But the fact remains, I tripped over a form of logic, described briefly in Boolean algebra, that puts order to ALL the jumbled up strings of random motions that we have been memorizing and calling the martial arts for a zillion years.

Now, if I could, in one word, or simple sentence, describe matrixing, I would, but you wouldn’t understand it.

Here is that sentence:

For something to be true the opposite must also be true.

Doesn’t make much sense, does it?

But it will if you do a few hundred hours of logical work in the martial arts.

Mind you, you could do a few thousand hours of work, a few million hours of work, and get nowhere. You would merely be trying to make sense of the insensible, the stored up memories in your mind.

You see, without the logic, without matrixing…the mindless mass of memorized circuits that are the martial arts just won’t make sense.

And, without the martial arts, with only the logic, you are left with:

For something to be true the opposite must also be true.

A simple phrase that means everything, and nothing, and is sort of like a zen koan, and doesn’t describe any sort of logic you have ever experienced.

So, it is impossible for me to give you an example, your jumbled up memory of a mind just won’t accept it. You will translate it into gibberish.

And, here is a cruel trick, when somebody gets close to understanding they say, ‘Oh, we’ve got that in our system.’

Simply, they have latched on to some simple point, and they do have it in their system, but their mind has slid right off of Matrixing the way teflon slides off bacon and eggs.

So you are caught. You are trapped in your own hard work, trying desperately to justify it, and refusing any example of real logic I could give you.

And your only real solution is to dig into the martial arts, and dig into matrixing that you might hope to understand the martial arts.

And, nobody really understands the martial arts.

True. Sad, but true.

They think they do, and they explain the martial arts by saying something like, ‘a punch is just a punch,’ or, ‘a kick is just a kick.’ Or some other pithy saying after a few decades in the martial arts.

Nope.

That’s just more teflon sliding off the pan.

The real martial arts are a thought.

Not meat, not mind circuits, not even freedom.

They are a simple thought.

And the only way you will ever understand the thought that is the martial arts is through matrixing. I say this because the martial arts have never been understood in the history of mankind. Never. Not on any planet, not on any plane of existence.

If they had been understood they would have, like one of those circuits, disappeared, and we would have a civilization without war.

Martial Arts Bowing and What It Really Means!

The Truth About Bowing in the Martial Arts!

The two martial artists faced off to fight. They did their ritual bows, and one ran off screaming. “You belong to the School of the Flying Dragon Who Passes Gas in the Clouds!” The remaining Martial Artist sneered, and thanked the Gods he had at least learned the ritual bow of that esoteric school of Gung Fu.

Sounds like a movie, eh?

martial arts bow

Why and how to do your Martial Arts bow!

But it does bring up the question…what is with all this bowing stuff?

When this writer walked into his first martial arts school, and walked onto his first mat, he was told the secret of bowing.

‘You are paying respect to all the martial artists who have stepped on this mat before, to all who have made the martial arts what they are.’

Okay. I can have that. I always greeted my grandfather with joy, why not consider the martial arts a family, or at least community?

And I quickly bought into bowing when you enter or leave the building, which showed respect for the school, and bowing to your opponent to show respect to him.

Heck, it was simple, polite, and quicker and safer than a handshake. I liked it.

Then I found out that in Japan, if the degree of your bow was off by a fraction of an inch…you were guilty of immense social disgrace.

And I found out that in China, if you didn’t do your ritual bow, the one where you step into the deep back stance, twirl the hands through a covered fist into a sword and shield, then into a mystical hand shadow of a dragon flying, and then do a backflip, you would be dead meat to the ancients!

And all the other gung fu schools would laugh at you.

But, that wasn’t the worst!

What was worse was that if you didn’t clamp your feet together harder than a Prussian snap! If you didn’t shoot your fists downwards like lightening bolts. If you didn’t bow severely and to the proper degree at the waist…you could be docked for points while performing kata at a tournament!

I really had no idea that the ancients were so militaristic.

But do you see how far afield we have come in this matter of bowing?

When I was at the Kang Duk Won, back in the seventies, I figured out this thing called a Martial Arts bow.

You are communicating with another person(s).

Maybe they are dead, maybe they are about to clean your clock on the mat, but you are saying… “Hello.”

And, you know, that’s what I tell my students when they first walk into my dojo, when they first step on to my mat.

You are saying hello. ‘Hello’ to the school when you walk into the building, and ‘Thanks’ when you leave.

You are saying “Hello” to all the other students, past and future, when you step on to the mat, and maybe ‘See you later’ when you leave.

You are saying “Hello” to your opponent. And when he gets a good punch or kick in on you, or you on him, you both bow and agree that that was a good punch or kick. “Nicely done!”

And when you disengage from fighting with him you are saying, “thanks.”

But you are not engaging in militaristic ritual, or going to be graded by society or a judge for the degree of your bow, or even trying to do a backflip so high that you can pass gas in the clouds.

Find God Using Martial Arts Discipline!

Using Martial Arts Discipline to Find God

Martial Arts Discipline is pretty crucial when it comes to finding God, or defining any spiritual aspect of life. To understand this we must first define exactly what God is.

Most people agree that the concept of God as a white-haired old man is pretty far out there. That is man making the idea of God look like himself as a patriarch.

religion martial arts discipline

Can this help you find God?

When you read the bible, or the Tao, or various books on Zen, you come across the idea that God can’t be defined.

What is the one thing in life that can’t be defined? Or, for that matter, seen, felt, or touched in any way?

Awareness.

Emotions, or abstracts such as emotions, can all be defined, and even experienced by looking at a sculpt or a painting, or even reading a good book.

But awareness can’t be touched or perceived.

So God is Awareness.

We all have awareness, and it is a good bet that we are all joined by a greater awareness, though we aren’t usually aware of this.

We could call this greater awareness…Greater Awareness.

And we could say that the universe is constructed of this Greater Awareness.

Read your bible now, substituting awareness and Greater Awareness for God in the appropriate places, and the thing makes a fair amount of sense.

Now comes the question: how does one increase awareness.

There are actually several methods.

One could meditate, which is to listen, which is to attempt to penetrate through to the divine through various mental methods.

One could study scripture and pray.

One could ignore the world in an attempt to find the Greater Awareness.

These methods work, but they are suspect to interpretation, and they don’t really define the universe.

To define the universe is the martial arts method.

Consider that the universe is nothing but objects flying through space. So one can study martial arts and become more aware of these objects. And thus more and more aware of the Greater Awareness.

Does Finding God have anything to do with Chi Power?

One is using one’s awareness to define the universe, you see, and using one’s awareness leads to more awareness, and thus to the Greater Awareness of the universe.

Thus, the discipline of the martial arts becomes the most defined and easiest and surest method for discovering one’s own Greater Awareness, and even to discovering the Greater Awareness of his fellow man.

Indeed, a person without martial arts awareness is at a severe disadvantage in handling the universe, life, or understanding the concept of God.
