New Book Solves Basic Algebra!

Newsletter 732
Publication of New Book!

Hi and good morning!
Great morning,
actually.
It was made great,
by a REALLY good work out!

New book on Algebra written by a martial artist!

Okaly dokaly,
published a new book.
BUT,
it isn’t a martial arts book.
It is a book on algebra.
So if you aren’t interested,
are maybe opposed to higher education (grin)
you can close this email,
we’ll be back to talking martial arts
next newsletter.

But,
for those who are interested,
and especially for those
who are interested
in the thought processes behind Matrixing,
here’s the deal…

I wrote this book when I was developing Matrixng.
It is,
actually,
the matrixing of basic algebra.
If you do have any liking for mathematical type subjects,
then this book might prove of interest.

Now matrixing is a science.
I’ve had a few of people blink a bit
at that statement.
Think I’m full of it.
How can a guy who practices punching people
aspire to smart stuff,
eh?

Well,
my father was an engineer,
made prototypes for a small firm back in the fifties,
you may have heard of it,
Ampex.
Yes,
he was actually the one who was making the original tape recorders.

Oh,
and after that,
he had a job working,
again with making prototypes,
at a small company name of…
Memorex.

Heck,
he had patents,
the Dept of Weights and Standards
actually asked him to design ball bearings for them.
He even had little gizmos that went up into outer space
with the space program.

So my childhood was entertained by a certain type of magazines.

Those of the Popular Mechanics, Scientific American, and so on ilk.
Or,
Golf magazines, where they dissected such things as arcs and swings and the turn of the hips and keeping the wrist straight and so on.
He liked gold, you see.
In fact, he was probably the first person in the UnitedStates
to graphite in building golf clubs.
He had access to space age materials,
he liked to golf,
so why not?

Anyway,
that was my childhood,
and when it came time for schooling,
I was tested,
and they wanted me to be an architectural engineer.

But I didn’t care about that stuff!
I just wanted to do Karate!

But,
all that stuff about building bridges,
all the science and mechanics in those magazines,
even and especially the stuff I read in golfing magazines…
it inspired me.

When I was doing Karate I was analyzing the structure of the foot,
why it did what it did.
What was the purpose of the arch,
what was the best angle for foot function.
I was figuring out struts and arches that came from the tan tien.
I wanted to know the physics of the body in motion!

And,
as years and decades passed,
I made my matrixing breakthroughs,
and I finally figured out
that the martial arts
are based on concepts.

So,
when I was making my living one time,
teaching a bunch of sixth graders.
(a LOT harder than digging ditches!)
I Matrixed Algebra,
broke it down to concepts,
and I discovered a couple of things.

First,
you can solve ANY algebra problem
if you understand a simple three step method.

Second,
you can teach algebra to ANYBODY
If you ask two simple questions.

Zingo bingo,
algebra was solved.

And,
the funny thing,
when people finally realized what I have done here,
made a method that actually teaches,
solved a whole field of subject with a few questions,
they will actually be angry that I didn’t matrix more subjects.
Matrix Calculus, or trig.

Anyway,
That’t the story behind this book.
It is a chunk of matrixing,
though it has nothing to do with the martial arts,
it will help you do algebra,
or teach your child algebra.

And I have to announce it,
and that’s why I stuck it in here,
a martial arts newsletter.
I am just covering all bases.

Hope it interests you,
that maybe you learned a little something
about this matrixing thing,
and why it is a real science.

That all said,

Here’s the link
to a new site for the book.

And,
if you’re not interested,
thanks for reading anyway,
and let me give you a martial arts deal.

Everything fine?
Great!

Martial Artist Releases New Algebra Book!

An Algebra Book by a Martial Artist!

This is the sort of article that is going to get a few martial artists angry, and they will join more than a few modern day teachers, who will get even angrier!

basic algebra system

New book on Algebra written by a martial artist!

After all, the martial arts are about fighting, and how can a fellow who practices thie fighting stuff know anything about Algebra?

And, martial artists who have been upset by this ‘matrixing’ thing will be discouraged to learn that there was some real science behind the creation of the thing.

Which brings us to the crux of the matter.

When I was in school I was apprised, courtesy of those day long tests, that I should be an architectural engineer.

Zowie! Design bridges and rocket ships! How cool is that, eh?

And my father, an official engineer who designed prototypes for a small firm called Ampex, and then for another small firm called Memorex, was pleased.

But, I didn’t care for this architectural engineering stuff. I wanted to learn Karate!

So I slogged through a few classes, bored out of my mind, and…and an interesting thing happened. I began applying architectural engineering to the martial arts.

Those cantilevers and arches, where were they in the human body? The analysis of geometry and materials, how did that support a horse stance, or that technique where you threw the bad guy across the room?

Could it be true? That the body is merely a structure whose motions can be reconfigured by the scientific application of formula?

The interesting thing is that, while I didn’t think I was doing anything unique (doesn’t everybody think like this), I was.

Most people can’t get outside their body, take an exterior viewpoint of their body, and consider as a machine, a vehicle, a thing of struts and beams, of forces and flows that can be analyzed with modern science.

Most people are fascinated by the ancient teachings, the immersion in other cultures, and they fall into the trap of ‘sciences’ that are passed down by oral tradition, and are based upon myth.

So, that brings us to now. Amidst all the punches and kicks, throws and blocks, I had to support myself, and I was a teacher in a private school, and then owned my own private school, for a number of years.

And I taught algebra.

But I taught it differently.

I had learned, you see, through some forty years of martial arts, that a punch was not complex, but simple.

And I looked for the simplicities of algebra.

And there were two.

The first simplicity is that algebra can be taught by asking three questions, the same three questions, for aNY algebra problem.

Once the student understands this, and starts asking himself/herself the questions are their own, the teacher can sit back and read a book, because algebra has been effectively solved. Kids, naturally exuberant, will take a joy and whistle through those long and daunting algebraic equations.

And, the second simplicity: there are two, only two, questions that a teacher must ask when teaching ANY child ANY algebraic function.

This last, in particular, is going to please home schoolers to the max. No longer struggling to lay out the problem and twist and turn it, but just ask two questions, one and two, and watch the lights go on in the child’s head.

So, if you have a child who is having trouble with Algebra, or maybe you are a teacher and want the latest method, if you are anybody who wants to clear the head of dust and debris…then the name of the book is ‘The Simple Truth About Algebra.’

Or if you are a martial artist who wants to see the truth behind theMartial Arts, from a scientific viewpoint.
