The Real Shaolin History That Nobody Knows!

The real Shaolin History is one of those animals that’s difficult to pin down. One reason for this is that the communist regime controls all history, and rewrites it to suit the state. Another reason is that the current history is of an oral tradition, and therefore quite open to mythicizing.

real shaolin historyThe real history starts with Bodhidharma taking the long journey to China to see the emperor. This tends to build up Bodhidharma at the expense of the emperor, and this isn’t right. The Chinese ruler, you see, was encouraging Buddhist monks to translate texts from sanskrit to Chinese.

The emperor believed that if he saw to the translation of these religious texts the general public would be enabled to study this religion. He believed this would allow him to enter nirvana. Bodhidharma told the emperor otherwise, which gained him nothing but a swift kick in the pants right out the emperor’s doors.

Bodhidharma then sought refuge at a local temple to meet up with other monks, and was turned away. The head abbot apparently thought him a trouble maker, or maybe he just didn’t want to rub elbows with somebody the emperor found wanting.

The temple he was refused entrance to was constructed in an area which had been razed, or burned down, and the emperor’s gardeners had planted new trees. Thus, the temple was named Shaolin (young forest). Nowhere to go, Bodhidharma began living in a cave.

Eventually Bodhidharma gained admittance to the temple, and legends have it that it took nine years, he bored a hole in the cave with his eyesight, he cut off his eyelids and planted them, and all sorts of other rather ludicrous legends. No one knows why he was admitted to the temple, but it was a good thing he was. The monks were in bad physical shape.

The Shaolin monks spent all their time hunched over books (scrolls, etc.) and were a sickly lot. So Bodhidharma taught them a series of movements based on hatha yoga and raja yoga. These movements were based on the 18 main animals of Chinese-Indian iconography, and this was doubtless the source of the five Shaolin animals.

This was the true origin of shaolin kung fu, though it is difficult to say when body conditioning was transformed into actual martial arts. The region was preyed upon by bandits, and it can be safely assumed that somebody whose body is in good physical condition is going to stand a better chance of survival than somebody whose body is not. At any rate this real Shaolin history has more legitimate sources than the various myths and legends which currently abound.

How to Create a Motor in the Martial Arts

One of the more profound mysteries in the martial arts is the concept of Chi. Chi is a mystical energy that pervades the universe in mysterious ways. And, chi is supposed to be a mystical energy that after a lifetime, you can use to do superhuman things. Unfortunately, proof seems to be sadly lacking for these claims concerning Chi. Maybe there are a few people who can do things, but most people can’t, and just a few exceptions here and there don’t prove the truth of certain theories concerning the subject of Chi. Fortunately, there is a theory that will result in Chi, that is not mystical, and that will work. A motor is two terminals which result in tension. Everything in the universe can be defined as a motor. Every tension in the universe is the result of a motor. An atom has a proton and electron interchanging to create energy. A cell has sodium and potassium interacting to create energy. Everywhere in the universe that you find two terminals opposing, you will find energy, and you will find a motor. And, when you take a martial arts stance with the human body, you have increased your weight, and this causes energy to move between the body and the planet. When you shift the weight from leg to leg, from stance to stance, the weight moves up and down the legs, and this excites the tan tien, a spot two inches below the navel which generates energy for the body. Thus, there is energy, and the body is a motor, and you can call this energy chi. Here’s the problem: everybody concentrates on making the body strong, and so creates only the low level chi required to operate the body. What people should be doing is focusing awareness on the procedure. If you build the awareness it takes to create the energy, you will build the energy that will result in the ‘superhuman’ potential that people look to Chi for. Thus, do your form, build awareness, and concentrate not on the violence of action, not on building the body, but on becoming aware of what you are doing. Feel the energy going down and up your legs, feel the energy building in the tan tien, and feel your connection with the planet. Do this and you will shortly become aware of energy building in your body in a surprising way. Energy that tingles a body part just by thinking of it, energy that warms the palms upon mere thought. Energy that can be channeled throughout your body and into the various body parts, and can even be felt outside your body. Once you have started building energy in this manner, then you can start searching for more spectacular ways to use it.

Why Does It Take So Long to Learn the Martial Arts?

imagineThe bully charges out of the alley and tosses a whole, darned trash can at you! Do you ask him to take that garbage can back because you’re only on your ninth Karate lesson and haven’t reached the deflecting the garbage can lesson? Or do you ask him go away because, here it comes, you forgot to pay your dues at the local dojo?

There is a point to all this silliness, why do the martial arts take so long to learn? You can teach a guy to fly a jet, get in a dogfight and get shot down, spend time in a concentration camp, get released and run for political office, and become a senator, and retire, in the time it takes to learn some systems of the martial arts. I heard of one system that it takes seventeen years to get to Black Belt in!

Some people will make the excuse that you’re learning more than self defense. You’re solving martial mysteries and its all about the lifestyle and you need to invest in your old age, you know? But you’re still lying under that trash can and the guy is pulling out a knife, and no matter how many lessons you’ve taken, you have to do something!

One of the old sayings that I heard, long time ago, is garbage in, garbage out. The sad fact of the matter is that if something is hard to put into your head, then it might not be easily accessed and used. Maybe it would be appropriate to find an art that is as easily absorbed as track, or boxing.

It is true that the Martial Arts are not a sport, they are an art, but they can still be learned easily and quickly. They just have to be taught not by one mystical technique after another, but rather by understanding concepts behind them. Those endless techniques that you memorize, to be truthful, are random data, and, often as not, they don’t really relate to one another.

That is a problem, to be sure, even if you learn a thousand techniques, you might not have enough data to be able to make sense out of the whole thing until you reach one thousand and one. And, let’s face it, a hundred years is to long to become competent. And then go to heaven.

The solution is that the martial arts must be taught on a conceptual basis. Instead of having a fellow memorize endless strings of tricks, have him learn the rather simple principles behind those tricks. Have him learn conceptually and he’s suddenly going to be able to figure out those thousand techniques without any need for endless memorization.

Give him an acorn and throw in the watering pot, that’s what I believe, and then watch the oak shoot upwards. Most martial artists, and I don’t mean to be mean in this observation, are lost in the limbs of the trees. The real way to teach, however, is to show the guy the principles, then have use those principles, and, faster than a rabbit on steroids, you’ve got yourself a fast and competent martial artist.

A Quick Summation of Matrix Karate

How Matrix Karate affects ALL Martial Arts

Matrix Karate is a system of martial arts,
but it is a system of logic as well,
and you can apply this logic to ANY other martial art.
Simply do Matrix Karate,
then take the basics of your system,
and I don’t care if it is krav maga
or tai chi,
or even something concocted by Lieutenant X,
and plug it into the forms and techniques
and you will have an instant Matrix of your system.

Now,
that is not the end of it,
but the beginning.
because as soon as you see your system logically,
ALL sorts of other doors are going to open.

And then the classical system that you have been studying
is truly going to become a VERY advanced form of Karate.

You won’t have those mysterious ‘hidden techniques’
holding you back.

You won’t have the political bushwah
that destroyed your system
in the way any more.

You won’t have any less than adequate instruction
that you might have received,
in your way.

Simply,
you will understand how everything fits together,
and then when you take another look
at that classical system,
you will realize something:
if your system is unchanged enough
then you will truly benefit from the concept
of it being a closed combat system.

A closed combat system is one
which was designed by evolution of generations,
doing only what works,
until you have something truly rare,
a true masterpiece,
something that can evolve the human being.

And,
if it is changed,
then you will have the tools
to RETURN it to
a closed combat method
once again.

I don’t care if your system has been…
altered by politicians,
twisted by political organizations,
changed for tournaments,
diluted for kids,
designed to make money,
or whatever,
or ANYTHING else…
you will be able to fix it.

And,
I guarantee this,
even if you can’t see what has been left out,
you will be able to figure it out after matrixing.

Now,
Matrix Karate is that powerful.
But,
here’s something I run across.
I come across,
usually in forums,
the people who say…
I know what you did,
I know what you are doing…
I’ve already done that.

Here’s the cruel trap,
there are enlightened human beings out there,
and they well might have figured out
what the heck is happening,
and they might actually have insight into their own souls.
These guys might well be VERY powerful people.

BUT…
they did it without method.
Or,
the method they used is antiquated,
based on ancient hieroglyphics
or whatever,
and…

THEY CAN’T EXPLAIN IT!

Which means they can’t teach it.
They can’t explain what they are doing,
accept in the most obtuse and confused manner.
They will resort to sayings from the Tao,
which is a good book,
but not a science,
and can be very confusing in itself.

And these guys,
no matter how smart,
end up losing students
because they don’t have a good, scientific method.

And,
I ask them,
‘have you ever seen a matrix?’
And they say nothing.
Because they are holding on to the fact
that they know something.
They don’t undersdtand,
won’t understand,
that I am not trying to destroy their system,
I am only making it so they can understand it
and teach it,
and create a REAL golden age of Martial Arts.

Now,
I have made it REAL easy.

groceries for a week (if you eat a lot)
a few cases of beer (and better for you)
a pair of Nikes,
and all sorts of other stuff,
and you end up with
MORE KNOWLEDGE
than ALL your years of previous training.
Or,
at least,
the ability to make TOTAL sense
out of ALL your martial arts.

Okay,
thanks for letting me get that out.
I know it is a sales push,
but there is data in there,
and if we are going to have a REAL golden age of martial arts,
it really is necessary.

Okay,

so I have to replace an inverter,
clean out culverts,
chase the cows out of the crops,
and go look at the birds.

Martial Arts Kata, Prison or Essential Tool?

Martial Arts Kata, Good or Bad?

in the Martial Arts Kata are often translated as martial arts forms, so I use the terms interchangeably.

Bruce Lee said in “The Tao of Jeet Kune Do” the following about forms:

“Too much horsing around with unrealistic stances and classic forms and rituals is just too artificial and mechanical, and doesn’t really prepare the student for actual combat.”

Is this true? Or is it meaningful, do forms actually teach you combat? Certainly looking at Pinan/Heian 1, or Kenpo Long 1, you have to wonder, is this meaningful? Are they honestly expecting me to drop the opposite hand when I block and punch?  And why are they having me drop my hands when in sparring they tell me to keep my hands up?

Even with something so entrenched as Sanchin, or the Sil Lum Tao those that lack correct teaching have to wonder, “how is this teaching me to fight?”.

In stark contrast are kata such as sanseirui, where it is very apparent that the kata is truly a combat scenario that captured and formalized into a form. This is evidenced by the lack of symmetry in the form, you don’t have “do the exact same thing on the other side” or “first do it on the right, then on the left”.

But do any of them provide you with anything useful? Or do they lock you into a routine.

Bruce was an incredible man, certainly what he said must have some value.  Besides, if not for forms, how do we transmit the style, untarnished, to the next generation?

The problem with Bruce, is that he was amazing. He was so amazing that somewhere along the line he seems to have forgotten that you have to explain to a new student how to make a fist, not to punch with the flat part of your fist, to line up the bones, to add CBM.  We can see that he knew this, for he said (paraphrasing here) “before I learned to punch, a punch was just a punch, while I was learning, a punch was much more than a punch.  Now, a punch is just a punch”.  However, he repeatedly wanted to throw away all the tools that are used to learn basics.

To quote my sensei, “you have to have a set of basics before you start learning to break free of the forms”.

I feel that all forms are intended to serve a purpose, but what is that purpose?

Let us start with the so simple that they are obnoxious forms, like the early Kenpo forms and the Pinans.  They are not meant to be combat forms, they are meant to be a way to train symmetry, and to familiarize you with the “alphabet of movement” that your system trains.  Think of the movements in these forms as “this is my footwork, these are my blocks, these are my strikes,  there are many like them, but these are mine”.  Symmetry is important, you need to be able to block, thrust, flick, parry and strike on both sides, these forms teach you exactly that, and they force you to practice equally on both sides.  Bruce may have been so good that he only needed five techniques and only those on his lead side, but that doesn’t account for most people, nor does it address what you are supposed to do if you get injured during combat.

So basic, boring forms have a purpose, even if it is only training.  However, when we go back to the question of dropping the hand, you do have to stop and wonder why practice something that we would never want to do in combat.   This is where I personally feel that some of these forms are less valuable than they could be.

Sanchin appears to be one of these boring beginner forms; however, it is an exceptional kata, Please see the earlier article I wrote on Sanchin (add a link to the other blog post).  My sensei was fond of saying that he could tell your belt level by watching your performance of Sanchin.

The Sil lum tao, is also a form that appears to be on the boring scale, however, it is a very internal form. It is meant to isolate the hand movements used in Wing Chun so they can be practiced separately from any foot movement, and to build Chi power.  These 2 aspects mean that it can be practiced and improved on for the rest of your life, just like Sanchin.

None of the seemingly boring kata teach you to fight, not even sanchin.  They may teach you many critical elements of fighting, blocks and strikes that you can combine, a clear calm mind, the ability to take a hit and continue. These things and more can be learned from kata.

Learning to fight from a kata though?  That is tough, there are people that have been reputed to have done so, I have a very hard time believing that.

In my mind the only way to improve reflexes, and learn to handle unexpected things is to get into sparring (at all contact levels) with as many different people as possible.  Try to get with people of different levels, different arts, and no arts.

In my personal opinion, I feel kata are very important, both for handing down the style, uncompromised. They are critical for training your body to use all the different tools in the styles toolbox.

I do not feel that they are a prison, rather an encyclopedia of motion and much more.  In my mind all kata should give you as many tools as Sanchin, Sil lum tao and Sanseirui.   However, if the form teaches you to do dangerous things, like drop your hands, you might want to re-evaluate the validity of that particular form.

Releasing the Fifth Volume of Matrixing Karate: Master

This is the official announcement that ‘Matrixing Karate: Master,’ has been released.

It was actually finished a couple of weeks ago, and it has had time to get up on Amazon, and it is in the createspace bookstore, so it’s time to make it official.

The first volume of this pivotal Karate series was dedicated to fixing basic movements. Volumes 2 – 4 were aimed at explaining matrixng principles, introducing matrixing graphs, and so on. Volumes 1 – 4 were based on the Matrix Karate course available at MonsterMartialArts.com.

The fifth and final volume is a bit different. It is based on a series of manuals written over the years, and upon the ‘Create Your Own Art’ video course.

The thing that makes this final book so important, and sets it apart from even the books it was based upon, is that it goes through the history and concepts of Matrixing and details exactly where each concept came from.

Thus, you are taken on a journey, from the first martial art studied by the author, Kenpo Karate, through each and every martial art he studied. This includes detailing concepts from separating two arts successfully (Kang Duk Won and Kwon Bup) and developing a third based on those two. (Outlaw Karate: The Secret of the One Year Black Belt). It goes into the exact influences that resulted in the development of matrixing, including the original matrixing lists from the 70s and 80s, and leads right into the creation of the Matrix graph.

One thing that may be surprising to students of the martial arts is that the author developed matrixing without the matrixing graph. Instead, he used lists of techniques, reworking the lists for every concept he encountered. This actually entailed, literally, thousands of lists. Thus, the development of the Matrixing Graph is a bonus to the martial arts of unparalleled value.

Beyond Western Muscles in the Martial Arts!

How to Find this Ki Energy in the Martial Arts

When I was in 6th grade
I decided I wanted to be the world’s fastest runner.
Absolutely loved running.
So I started running,
and,
in class,
we had these human body charts.
They had pictures of the muscles,
the bones,
really laid out the human body.
And,
yes,
the page on sexual reproduction
was very worn.

But,
I took off my shoes in the middle of the class,
took off my socks,
and started looking at the pictures
and comparing them to my foot.
Very interesting.
Until the girls all said EW!
And held their noses.

Anyway,
I was obsessed,
and I started examining how the foot arched,
I figured out that the arch was a spring.
I looked at which sides of the legs the muscles were on,
and then angled my stance
so I could get the fastest start.
I pointed my toes,
so to make certain my feet
made the most
of muscles and springs.
I was careful not to run
on one side or the other of the foot.

And,
when I reached the seventh grade,
and decided I wanted to be
the best baseball player in the world,
I started the whole process over again
but analyzing which muscles swung the bat,
why you had to shift the weight with the swing,
how to set myself
so I could follow the ball
the best and easiest way possible.

And so on through a lot of sports.

In 1967,
I found Kenpo Karate,
and I did pretty good.
They made me an instructor,
I wrote an instruction manual,
and I thought I was the cat’s meow.
All that study of the muscles and the body and all that
helped me out pretty good.

Then I went to the Kang Duk Won.
Imagine my surprise
when they said,
‘Gonna take a couple of years.
You look good, but…’
But what?
Fortunately for me,
the martial arts were proving a lot harder
than sports.
I mean,
the muscles and the angles and all that
there was more to it in the martial arts
than any sport I had ever done.
And,
I started to realize something.
Being able to use muscles
had nothing to do with ki.
All of my American sports
were concerned with muscles.
Karate was concerned with…something else.
What was this ki thing?

So I went through Karate,
and then I started playing around with Wing Chun,
and found this extra sensitivity
in Sticky Hands.
Not reacting,
but sensing when somebody was going to do something
before they did it.
A mental telegraph through the arms.
An ESP that traveled through the body
when it was in contact with another body.
His mind was my mind,
as long as I had physical contact.
Cool!

Then I went to Aikido,
and I found something truly spectacular,
this extra sensory perception
didn’t need physical contact!

Now,
I had had glimpses of this phenomena
in Karate.
And I had experienced a more scientific method
and had several very intense experiences
in Sticky Hands.
And then figured out the truth about this stuff
in Aikido.

And I was slow,
because it wasn’t part of my culture.

But,
I was faster than most guys
because I had analyzed the body so thoroughly.

And,
here’s the funny thing,
you can figure this stuff out
in most any art,
if you understand how the body works.

But,
there’s a catch.
You don’t analyze the body
from the viewpoint
of the muscles.

That’s what screwed me up at the Kang Duk Won.
They wanted me to use mental energy,
intention,
ki.

I was used to using muscles.
But muscles are last in the chain.
They are reaction time.
Reaction time is action
after something else has happened.

It means you’re not in the moment,
but you are after the moment,
always responding to,
afterwards.

Think about it this way,
there is a rule in chess,
if two people each play a perfect game,
white always wins.
That’s because white makes the first move.
And that’s true in the martial arts.

So you can’t analyze the body from the viewpoint of muscles,
you have to analyze it from the viewpoint
of energy.
Second on the chain,
and closer to the moment,
to the thought that creates the action.

Now,
here’s the trick,
nobody has ever analyzed the martial arts
from the viewpoint of energy.

They haven’t.
That’s the truth.

So why do you think I get such great wins
from the people who take the Master Instructor course?
Because they have analyzed the muscles,
or at least used the muscles,
and then…nothing.
There is no place for them to go!
There is no second step!
And then they find the Master Instructor course.

The instructors of the martial arts
in the united states,
for the most part,
just sort of wallow.

The Master Instructor course,
however,
offers the second step.
When you go into the six secrets
and learn how to make any technique work,
then mysticism dies a quick death.
It is killed off by logic and physics.
But the real joy is when
you learn how to do your forms
from the viewpoint of energy.
I use a simple trick,
show how the body works,
and,
suddenly,
energy flows.
Instantly.

You won’t go back to the old ways,
you can’t,
because that would mean doing the martial arts wrong.
You can’t argue with what I’ve said,
because it is the truth.
Proven by the fact that it is simple,
and because it is different
than what anybody else is doing,
and the simple knowledge I present
makes it happen!

You can go become a doctor of sports medicine,
you can study nutrition and biomechanics and all that,
you can study the body till you’re blue in the face,
but it won’t tell you the extremely simple truth.

Oh, you’ll learn lots of little truths,
but they won’t have anything to do with energy and intention.

muscles are the first level.
Energy is the second level.
Intention is the third level.
Western science stops on muscles,
the body,
nutrition,
push ups and sit ups.

Then,
there’s no place to go.
I show you energy,
and,
a little work on that level,
and the third level,
intention,
the spirit,
the truth,
just opens up.

And you don’t have to struggle
and use large amounts of energy!
Rather,
you have to relax,
and learn how to use
smaller and smaller amounts of energy.
That’s how you open up the third level.

Okey dokey,

Breakthrough Karate Training Manual!

Buddha Crane Karate is a unique Martial Arts book, and probably one of the most important martial arts books ever written.

It was actually put together back in the nineties, and it was the culmination of several years of some of the most original research ever done in the martial arts.

The author, Al Case, had spent decades researching material, was a writer for the martial arts magazines, and was on the cusp of his Matrixing discoveries. Matrixing is a form of logic unique to the martial arts.

He wrote Buddha Crane Karate, and began the process of putting down matrixing materials on paper. This involved discarding useless martial arts, poser techniques, techniques that just plain didn’t work, and assembling what was left, the heart and guts of real martial arts, into workable systems.

Buddha Crane was the first of the books.

Unfortunately, technology of the time made it impossible to make and distribute the Buddha Crane. Personal computers were still in their infancy, and it was impossible to translate the graphics into printable form.

The graphics, you see, are bodies described solely by lines and arcs of an early Appleworks program. Real caveman.

Indeed, modern Kindle platforms are unable to translate the graphics.

Thus, up until this publication, the book was seen only as an addition to the ‘Create Your Own Art,’ course crafted by Mr. Case.

The Create Your Art Course was a break through in itself. It consists of original material filmed in the eighties! Though it is unfortunately blurry and sound impaired, it is understandable, and it does stand as one of the most unique martial arts courses ever produced. And Buddha Crane Karate is appended almost an afterthought.

One of the most incredible breakthroughs of the martial arts as an afterthought! how odd.

The Work Out Before Christmas!

Hanakwanmass!

(Hanuka/Kwanza/Christmas)

Budo means ‘to put down the spear.’
So whoever you are,
wherever you are,
work out long and hard,
so you can put down the spear
and hug your fellow man.

One of the things that newbies don’t think of,
they are so immersed in their studies,
is what is martial arts good for
after the mat.

It is so much fun to fight,
that they don’t think about the discipline they are building,
and the increased awareness,
and it takes them a while
to figure out what martial arts are good for.

So let me ask you the question…
have you picked up a musical instrument
since you began martial arts?
Or put some poetry down on paper?
Or taken classes in school?
Or done something else that requires
discipline, awareness,
patience,
whatever virtue you possess?

One of the things I enjoy is Haiku.
Haiku is a form of poetry,
requires extreme discipline,
and you end up with something like…

the frog on the pad
sees the moon in the water
kills it in one jump

And you think about life before you became aware of it,
whether a frog has awareness
what the moon looked like to that frog
before he attacked it.

This type of thought
is so much more fulfilling
than tweeting.

This type of thought fills your soul,
instead of emptying it.

So make a Hanakwanmass Haiku,
if you will.
Something about a tree
an ornament
a work out
a sword
a present
or…?

And think about how you are going to use
that delicious discipline you are building.

think about music
or writing
or painting
or whatever.

How can you express all that discipline and awareness
once you walk off the mat?

Okey dokey,
I know you’ve got family a waiting,
presents to open,
but make sure you take the time to visit the monster.

A glitter of electrons,
a computer present,
jump in.

Hanakwanmass to all!
And a durned fine work out, too.

Read it wisely.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

Twas the night before Christmas
I was in my shack
primed and ready
for the red fat attack.

my weapons were loaded
the windows were barred
all would be safe
while I was on guard

The chimney was decked
with concertina wire
I crouched by the couch
ready to fire.

I had an M60
with ammo to feed
I didn’t care
if the red fat did bleed.

A loaded shotgun
and grenades to spare
when red fat came down
I’d blow him out of there.

Throwing stars and knives
and a really long sword
and if that didn’t work
I knew a bad word.

Sitting there late
my eyes started to close
when suddenly I heard
a bunch of ho hos.

Off with the lights
safety off, too
I  watched the fire close
and heard a sound from the flu.

‘Ouch and gosh darn it
who put the wire here
those are my undies
starting to tear!’

Then a shower of soot
and a grunt and a groan
he landed in the fire
and gave out a moan.

He was rubbing the place
where the wire did tear
so I held down the trigger
and lead filled the air.

belt after belt
did I deal the red fat
he danced and he jumped
I knew he felt that!

then quicker than spit
I ran out of lead
but enough was enough
he had to be dead.

Boy was I shocked
to see him stand tall
stepping out of the fireplace
not bothered at all.

So I grabbed up the 16
to mow him down
he had to be hurting
cause I saw his big frown.

Then I was empty
and he came straight for me
I pulled out my knives
and sliced him with glee

He jumped to the side
moving real quick
disarmed my knives
with a well placed kick

then he dropped the big bag
he had on his shoulder
reached forth his arms
and his anger did smolder

He grabbed hard my neck
and held me up high
I tried kicks and punches
but I was like a fly

Not karate nor judo
no art did work
and he grinned a mean grin
and called me a jerk

‘Don’t you know
you stupid little man
Christmas is forever
in spite of your plan.’

Then he threw me aside
and proceeded to work
giving presents to all
and to me a great smirk

And when he left
the great big red fat
he left me a lump of coal
the big red fat rat!
