Three Ways to Transform Yourself in the Martial Arts

Three Martial Arts Drills…

Merry HanaKwanMass!
it’s time to think about a New Year!
What art do you want to learn next year?
What arts do you want to learn?
Make the thought now,
get started now
on making your plans.

perfect martial arts body bookLet me tell you something you don’t know.
My Xmas pres to you,
something you don’t know.
It’s the present that will last,
because you’re going to think about it,
and it will change you,
and you will find that this simple fact
has a LOT to do with the martial arts.

Here go…
Did you know that emotion is 90% hearing,
and 10% seeing?

It’s true.

Music is filled with emotion,
people’s voices are filled with emotion,
but you look at somebody
you don’t feel much emotion,
actually,
unless you know the person,
and even then have been apart from them for some time,
you actually tend to judge them.

Now,
there are ALL sorts of ‘what ifs’ to this,
but generally speaking,
it’s true.

So what does this have to do with the martial arts?

Simply this,
when you face somebody,
on the mat or on the street,
you trust your eyes.
Heck,
if everybody is yelling,
then you have to trust your eyes.
You use your eyes,
and you analyze what is happening.

So the breakdown goes like this.

Hearing is emotion,
seeing is judgmental,
and seeing through the martial arts is analysis.
Thus,
the importance of the martial arts
as a learning experience,
as a way to get over the desire to judge others,
instead of see them as they are.

Now,
if you are astute,
then you realize that I have given you the key
to world peace,
and,
to peace within yourself.

understanding this datum,
that hearing is emotion,
seeing is judgmental,
martial arts transforms judgment into analysis,
and thus wisdom,
will change you,
a subtle but immeasurable but infinite change.

Now,
the problem is that this change
from judgement to the ability to analyze
takes a long time.

Most martial arts take two to three decades
to transform the individual.
So a guy takes the martial arts,
learns to beat somebody up,
and thinks that’s all.
Quits the arts.
Yikes!
He is actually going AGAINST world peace,
and peace within.

(You can’t have world peace
unless enough people have peace within)

So you either have to do the martial arts long enough,
or do them intensely enough,
to transform yourself from judgement to analysis.
And that’s where Matixing comes in.

The biggest enemy Matrixing has
is the martial artist who thinks he knows it all.

At best,
he passes down the art,
transforms people in the same old same old
slow
way.
At worst,
his art has time to warp and twist and leave the true.
And,
let me tell you,
the worst is more likely to happen
than the best.

But when you matrix
you learn to find the things you don’t know.
You find the blank spots
the things you didn’t understand,
and the art speeds up.

Awareness progresses
according to the speed at which
you discover what you don’t know.

This is an absolute.

The problem is that people go only as fast as they are bound.
Bound by what they know,
which hides what they don’t know.

Okay,
you’re probably swimming by now,
so let me back off a bit,
and give you a couple of exercises
to help you grok this data.

First,
do matrixing.
Matrix your forms,
matrix your art,
matrix yourself.
That’s easy to do,
just get a MonsterMartialArt.com course
and go for it.

Second,
go out in the woods,
where there are no sounds of civilization,
sit,
close your eyes,
and listen.

Listen as if you are watching TV.
The same attention,
the same raptness,
but the whole world is now your TV.
At first thoughts will intrude,
but keep shoving them aside,
and learn to listen,
and you will shortly enter a world,
a world of emotion beyond emotion,
that you never knew existed.

Third,
take a day and don’t talk.
Tell your friends the day before,
have a card printed up if you need to,
but don’t talk.

Obviously it should be a day you don’t have to go to work.
Then,
wait a week or two,
and do it again.
A few days of no talking,
and you will enter a realm
where you learn to communicate with the eyes,
and you will see things
that have been passing you by.
Your eyes will open
and you will see a different world.
A world without judgment.

Okay,
those are your three steps,
fun to do,
takes some discipline,
but the results will knock you for a loop.

Five Martial Arts Books Written over Twenty Years Make an Encyclopedia

I Wrote an Encyclopedia of Martial Arts

There are five books in the Martial Arts encyclopedia, and they cover Karate from China to America, from the first transmutations of Kung Fu to the latest scientific innovations.

sanchin kata pan gai noonPan Gai Noon, is on of the more important Chinese Arts that influenced Karate

Kang Duk Won is a pure form of Karate before the Japanese went power crazy on it.

Kwon Bup is an American version, very powerful and straight forward.

Outlaw Karate is the record of my attempts to create a style of Karate that could be done in one year. A black belt in one year really is a heady concept.

And the last book, Buddha Crane Karate, begins going into matrixing concepts.

I haven’t listed as an encyclopedia (though I did at one time), and that is because these five books were written over a twenty year period. They have different software programs, different technologies, and, taken together, they are ragged. So I list them as separate books, but they are an encyclopedia of Martial Arts. They are all technique, not a lot of words, just the actual moves.

You can find the Encyclopedia of Martial Arts on this page.

Freedom in the Martial Arts

You aren’t Free if You Don’t know Martial Arts

Even if you live in America, can you really say you’re free if you don’t study the martial arts?
Actually, not.
How can you say you are free if your body isn’t strong enough to fight back when bullied?
How can you say you are free if your mind isn’t trained to see when somebody is picking on you, and stand against them?
How can you say you deserve liberty if you don’t know how to fight back?
How can you say you are free if you don’t know the martial arts?

Slaves don’t know karate or kung fu, aikido or taekwondo, and thus they remain slaves. Weak. Unable to stand up to those who would oppress them.

Women who depend on men for their safety, and don’t know how to defend themselves, aren’t free.

People who are afraid of being mugged, raped, driven off the road…they are enslaved by their own fears, which fears would disappear if they took classes in Karate, Tai Chi Chuan, or some other form of self defense.

If you are a parent, are you raising children who will be slaves? Or children who will stand up for themselves because they have learned how to protect themselves, who trained themselves to stand up to the bully in Karate classes or taekwondo classes, or through some other type of martial art.

If you are a martial artist, are you going to go past tournaments and the spectacle of MMA? Are you going to resist the urge to put aside the fun when you become more ‘mature,’ and become a parent or career minded?

Are you going to make a decision to continue learning, that you might develop your spiritual being? If you don’t, then haven’t you enslaved yourself to being merely a human, and lost your chance to become a spiritual human being?

This is a free country, it is true, but it is only free to those who stand up and assert that freedom. If you don’, if you don’t have the ability to stand up and defend yourself, in body, words, or any manner, which ability is the logical outcome of a sincere study of the martial arts, then you can’t say that you are really free.

Have you read ‘The Bomber’s Story?” It is the story of one man who became disillusioned with freedom in America, and then learned martial arts. Is blowing up buildings patriotism? Read The Bomber’s Story and then decide for yourself.

Boy Wears Tin Skull Cap to Avoid Shaolin Gung Fu!

Kung Fu Builds Strong Minds!

Yes, unbelievable but true, a young boy, who definitely didn’t want to learn Shaolin Gung Fu, has taken to wearing a tin skull cap.
The boy’s father apparently wanted to teach him good Shaolin, and he would say things like, ‘if you don’t study martial arts you will have a weak mind, then the government will control you with their radio frquencies.’
The boy thought that if he wore a metal cap as protection against the radio waves he wouldn’t have to study kung fu. Which is to say, he wouldn’t have to have a strong mind.

karate kung fu pa kua chang martial arts book

The Best Way to Learn Shaolin Gung Fu! Click on the Cover!

The scientific truth behind this odd tale is that the body is a like a machine, and the brain is like a radio station.
Unfortunately, the radio station ‘brain’ is victim to so much static that it starts to generate its own static. The old ‘garbage in garbage out’ theory.

A study of Kung fu, such as Shaolin, focusing the mind on ‘one thing,’ will train the individual to ignore the static, and the mind will come under control, and then the radio frequencies broadcast by the government will pass right through the ‘empty mind.’

The static that is absorbed by the brain can actually come from several sources.
Drugs tend to unfocus the individual, encouraging a form of static.
The government puts out special frequencies at places across the globe in order to control mankind on a mass level.
Even education is a culprit in this sad saga, as modern education is so lacking in even basic common sense that the result is more confusion among students, rather than competence and clarity, resulting in an ‘educated’ population that will do as they are told, and not what is right.

Thus, the boy’s father was right, and the boy was wrong, but, if he persists in wearing a tinfoil beanie he will doubtless remain stupid and prone to distractions and become just one more ‘mind number robot’ having existence as a human being.

The solution? Study Shaolin Kung Fu, or Karate or Aikido, or any other form of body discipline…for to discipline the body is to discipline the mind.

A good place to start would be the martial arts lessons available at MonsterMartialArts.com. They are very logical, easy to do, and will cause the body, and mind, to become strong enough to resist any form of distraction.
Remember, good Shaolin Gung Fu results in strong human beings.

Greatest Day in Martial Arts History!

Happy Martial Arts Memorial Day!

Happy work out!
And happy you!
Why should you be so happy?
Well,
you’re about to get a fantastic deal.

First,
it is my birthday.
Got to be the greatest day
in the history of the martial arts,
right?
And,
two times a year,
my birthday and Christmas,
I ask you something.
I ask you to forgive me.
This is a serious thing.
If I said the wrong thing,
offended you somehow,
didn’t deliver exactly what I promise,
forgive me.
And let me know if there is something
that I need to do
to make it right.

Here’s the deal…
people make mistakes.
I deal with thousands of people a month,
so I have a lot of opportunity to make mistakes.
I have a lot of opportunity to build up ill will.
So,
if I messed up,
and I can erase ill will
even if I don’t know what it is,
then it keeps my personal universe
happy and functioning.

So,
forgive me.

Now,
that said,
let’s talk about why you should be happy!

Birthdays and Christmas,
time for presents,
right?
Everybody should get lots of presents
all the time.
Heck,
life is short,
we should live happy,
and why not?
Right?

So the present is this.
Until June 5th, 2014,
all download courses
are two for one.
You buy a course,
you get an extra one.
FREE.
My thanks for forgiving the world,
and forgiving me,
for any mistakes or ill will.

I can’t do this for courses I have to mail.
And the courses should be of around the same value.
You pay 30 bucks,
find another course for thirty bucks.
Order,
then email me with a happy birthday greeting,
and say you want a second course free.
I’ll send the second course
probably within 24 hours.
I’m on the computer a lot,
I check my mail,
so I’ll get back to you,
probably within 24.
If I don’t,
email me again,
mama google messed up.
My email is

aganzul@gmail.com

And,
if there is a small difference between course prices,
ask me.
When I’m celebrating
and all happy
it’s pretty easy to start talking about blinding steel
with a thirty dollar course.
Or the Black Belt course,
if you’ve already order a forty dollar course.

Okey dokey?
Did it make you happy?
Excellent!

So,
read it again,
make sure you understand,
then pet the dog,
shave the cat,
or whatever,
then…
order.
And,
no limits.
You want more than one course,
go for it.
It’s two for one,
no limits.

Happy birthday to me,
and happy memorial day to you,
and…I guess that’s it.

HAVE A GREAT WORK OUT!

Hitting Harder in the Martial Arts!

How to Hit Harder in the Martial Arts!

I had an interesting question today
this from a person who didn’t study the martial arts
He asked me
“How do you break those bricks and boards
and not end up with arthritis
in your hands?”

Good question, eh?
The reason
I told him
is that it is not how hard you hit,
it is hitting gently
and letting the power accumulate
over the years.

I remember my brother
back when Karate first hit the news,
punching a telephone pole
to make his hands tough.
He ended up with bruised and bleeding knuckles
that hurt for months.
And,
sorry to say,
there are schools of martial arts
that do that type of training
to this day.
They believe in
‘no pain no gain,’
which is one of the worst sayings ever.

Look,
pain is a warning,
a signal that you are in danger
that you might get hurt.
You don’t ignore pain.
You learn to edge it,
to use it,
but you never deliberately hurt yourself.
That’s like printing
‘stupid’
on your forehead.

But,
you put up a makiwara,
you tack some rug pads to a tree,
you hang a heavy bag,
and you hit it not hard,
but softly,
gently,
just hard enough to feel it.
Then you don’t bruise your knuckles,
you make your whole arm strong
working out day after day.

You don’t change your body…
you change the way you think about the universe.

And,
that leads us to the second part of this thing.
There are three depths for striking.
Skin deep,
muscle deep,
bone deep.

To hit the skin never causes a bruise.
It pulls the punch,
and you can strike as hard as you want
nobody gets hurt.

BUT…your punches don’t develop real power.

So you punch a little harder, to the muscle.
This can cause a bruise,
so you have to learn how to tighten your muscles,
or,
how to hit just barely hard enough
to rock the muscle
but not bruise it.

This needs a high degree of control,
but you know what I say,

there is an art to destruction,
but the true art is in control.

Now,
the third depth of striking
is to strike to the bone.
This causes bruises every time,
and puts the bones at risk.
You can,
with a little practice
break bones pretty easily.

This depth of striking
takes a lot of awareness,
not a lot of mindless bashing,
but a lot of concentration
and focus,
and awareness of what,
exactly,
you are hitting.

There’s a great book,
‘Iron and Silk’
by Mark Saltzman.
Got made into a movie.
Guy goes to China and learns Kung Fu.
Well,
the guy who taught him
was famous,
was in movies,
and one of his training regimens was
to strike a piece of metal 2000 times a day.
He would just walk around
holding a little plate of metal,
and punch it.

When they shot the movie
they asked him to hit the plate,
and he did,
and the sound of his knuckles striking metal
made everybody sick.
They had to dub in the sound.

Now,
that is a punch
developed over time.
When you see the movie you realize
he is not hitting the plate hard,
just doing it
over and over and over,
and,
a couple of decades,
and the mere sound of that punch,
makes people sick.

Now,
go read the book,
rent the movie,
really fascinating stuff.

Okay,
so are you working out a lot?
Do you have a sheet of paper hanging on your bedroom door,
so you can see it every day?
Or taped to the mirror in your bathroom,
reminding you to work out?

Think about this punching thing,
about the three levels of striking,
and where you want to be in your martial arts.
Not tomorrow,
but in a couple of decades.

Go on,
make a plan,
stick to it,
and answer the question that guy asked me.

And,
that said,
if you have books on the martial arts,
feel free to donate them to Monkeyland.
My email is aganzul@gmail.com.
Check your shelves out
maybe you have an old Bruce Tegner book,
or a DVD that you are no longer interested in,
send me an email,
and I’ll send you my address up here.

And,
sorry to say,
but you
will even have to spring for the postage.
We just don’t have the cash up here.
But,
the idea is to have
the greatest martial arts library in the world.
So if you have anything to contribute,
it would be appreciated.
Some day in the near future
I’ll make a list of books
we have in the library.

But,
wouldn’t it be great
for people to come up
and not just learn the best martial arts in the world,
but to have access to EVERY single other martial art?
To be able to do research into other martial arts?

Now,
that’s about all this week.

How to Create a Motor in the Martial Arts

Here an old post that deserves a new read…

3jQso4

One of the more profound mysteries in the martial arts is the concept of Chi. Chi is a mystical energy that pervades the universe in mysterious ways. And, chi is supposed to be a mystical energy that after a lifetime, you can use to do superhuman things. Unfortunately, proof seems to be sadly lacking for these claims concerning Chi. Maybe there are a few people who can do things, but most people can’t, and just a few exceptions here and there don’t prove the truth of certain theories concerning the subject of Chi. Fortunately, there is a theory that will result in Chi, that is not mystical, and that will work. A motor is two terminals which result in tension. Everything in the universe can be defined as a motor. Every tension in the universe is the result of a motor. An atom has a proton and electron interchanging to create energy. A cell has sodium and potassium interacting to create energy. Everywhere in the universe that you find two terminals opposing, you will find energy, and you will find a motor. And, when you take a martial arts stance with the human body, you have increased your weight, and this causes energy to move between the body and the planet. When you shift the weight from leg to leg, from stance to stance, the weight moves up and down the legs, and this excites the tan tien, a spot two inches below the navel which generates energy for the body. Thus, there is energy, and the body is a motor, and you can call this energy chi. Here’s the problem: everybody concentrates on making the body strong, and so creates only the low level chi required to operate the body. What people should be doing is focusing awareness on the procedure. If you build the awareness it takes to create the energy, you will build the energy that will result in the ‘superhuman’ potential that people look to Chi for. Thus, do your form, build awareness, and concentrate not on the violence of action, not on building the body, but on becoming aware of what you are doing. Feel the energy going down and up your legs, feel the energy building in the tan tien, and feel your connection with the planet. Do this and you will shortly become aware of energy building in your body in a surprising way. Energy that tingles a body part just by thinking of it, energy that warms the palms upon mere thought. Energy that can be channeled throughout your body and into the various body parts, and can even be felt outside your body. Once you have started building energy in this manner, then you can start searching for more spectacular ways to use it.
